Scratchers that do not break?

Broke another scratcher this weekend. I need to ride 20 miles on hard pack to get to my spot. Any really good unbreakable scratchers out?

What are you running now?

I have 600 miles on my stock PRO scratchers, I leave them down all the time. Just backed up on them last weekend, oops. Pull them out and run them some more.

Seems all of the wire spring units break at the elbow between coil and tip. A friend re-bent this area into a curve stated that it has lasted for years. Might try to see if it helps.

I am going to try this. Mine all break right there. The cable kind cannot put as much snow in the skid, so have not tried those.

Right side only

Can't figger it out but I break my right side scratcher every year.

I need to find a ridding buddy with a left side problem that way we can both save money....

Has anyone tried the new skidoo ones that hang from the drop brackets? Do/can they fit on the Polaris? They look interesting...:face-icon-small-con

I have wondered about those, but the shorter rail version on the T3 has my curiosity up.

I don't know if the rail mounted version would be too wide for a 15" track, but imagine it might work. I like the idea that it can be used in reverse and that it has a resting bracket as well.

I have broken two.

We did have a few customers that broke these this year. It is really odd because between myself and the manufacturere (over the top performance) we have sold thousands of these. We have had a small handfull break out of thousands. Not sure the cause but the manufacturer is aware of it. None of mine have broke and the ones that did we covered under warranty.

If you haven't tried them, how do you know they don't put up enough snow? I've been running them for years. I never worry about them and I leave them down 100% of the time. I haven't had any problems.

If I were riding 20 miles on hardpack I'd try throwing a set of Ski-Z's (google it) on the skis. According to Vicky at Between the Lines Designs (the maker) they work great when you are moving down the trail but they aren't as effective at slow speeds. So if you are creeping around in the trees in the spring you might need rail scratchers too.

I have now broken 4. Two different sleds and two different riders. An 80 mile trail ride last weekend caused this. Cables may be the only option.

Ski Doo scratchers

This mostly will not happen during normal use but understand a Iron Dog sled this year had a coolant leak when a Ski Doo scratcher broke got suck up by the track and jammed into the front heat exchanger. All spring type scratchers will break as any spring has a limited number of cycles before the metal work hardens and fails.

Ski doo just came out with a new scratcher that looks to be the bomb. It is reversible and looks like it could be mounted farther forward. It has my vote. Seen a doo video with rassmussen talking about the cool features or products they came with for 15.

scratchers

I've being using over the top for years and sell them in my store. I haven't had any issues at all nor any complaints from guests. They are great compared to some I've used in the past.
