buddy just bought a SC apex, has not rode it yet, loaded in his truck to get inspected(USA imported into canada) said it shut down on him a few times when trying to load it.. then he got it down to the inspection place and it wont start..

Sled has check engine light on, reading error code 15

Dont think its anything major as it was bought from a really stand up guy that is a sled shop owner in WA.

So anyone got any ideas..

I have not looked yet, but he also thinks that oil might be a bit milky..(but the guys a big worrier so i am guessing the oils fine..

thanks in advance

also the sled will turn over, just not start

make sure the vent lines all good and that there is one going to the blow off valve i can not see one in pic.plus it look like there is a hose off the intercooler.

I am the guy that bought the sled. I checked all the diagnostic codes but have no idea what any of them mean.
They are as follows.
D01 - 2
D02 - 99
D03 - 9
D05 - 7
D06 - 6
D07 - 0
D09 - AVERAGING 11.1
D24 ON
D26 - 00
D27 - 00
D29 - OFF
D30 THRU D39 - 00
D50 THRU 52 - 00
D58 - 01618
D60 - 0
D61 - 11 PAUSE 30 PAUSE 85 REPEAT
D62 - 4
D70 - 0

Also added a pic of the console with the ignition on and engine not running.

went over there for a hour or so, sled really wants to fire, but just falls short every try.. took a plug out, look decent, but cleaned it up a bit and put it back in.. sled seemed closer to starting.. going to pick up four new plugs and install tomorrow..

has only been run to drive in and out of truck.. read somewhere that if you do this to much sled can become hard/impossible to start? anyone else had a problem like this?

also note that i think code 15 is only coming on because of the gems controller.. and that once the sled starts this code will dissapear

my brother's sled would stop for no reason it turned out to be a safty feature yamaha put in to the throttle the actual peace you push where it pivots he was told to ground the wires he never had the problem since.

thanks, we will have to look at that if plugs dont do the trick.. but reading other peoples posts on other sites i really think that the plugs are *ucked

I just changed the plugs it started right up ran for about 10 min at idle then stumbled and died. No error codes besides that 15 which shut off when it started up. So I tried starting it one more time ran ok for fist 10 secs then I think the gems kicked in and it started stumbling then shut down. I'm too afraid to start it up again cause I dont want to foul the plugs again. The oil temp got up too 260 and the Water temp was 80. Do u think I should leave it till I hit the mtn and maybe it just needs to be pushed a bit?

Are you at a way different elevation? There is a mode on my gems that is a altitude adjustment, and if i adjust it too much it makes my sled die and really hard to start.

yes he is at sea level.. i would assume the sleds set up to run mostly 3000-7000 feet as thats what most riding in BC/WA is...

You might try disconnecting the GEMS box and start it but only let it idle so there is little or no boost or need for the additional fuel. See if it idles OK doing that and if it does, it is probably an adjustment with the GEMS. Most of my idle issues are with the mode 1 setting and most of my running issues have been related to the mode 6 Altitude adjustment setting.

When I start my sled at my house 6k I usually need to adjust the idle setting higher by a full point or it will die...when I am riding at 10k or higher I usually adjust the idle back down and the altitude setting also down and everything else seems to work.

Obviously I ride much higher in elevation than you but this has been my experience.

same here has done this since day one. if run at lower altitude for any length of time adjust altitude compensator on gems. when in town changing trailers moving sleds around i warm just enough to let the red light go out and then load, unload, etc if you let it idle too long it will load up and die. on the mountain or your set riding elevation it can idle all day and not die.i used to adjust alt comp in town then again on mountain too much of a pain. just dont let it idle too much down low or will will load up.

Thanks for the Tip. Is there a way to easily disconnect the GEMS controller from the system? Can the wires be pulled directly off of the controller pad or do you have to trace the wires back and disconnect each senor and so on.

Any suggestions for the GEMS controller settings at sea level, 3000 feet and 6000 feet?
