SBA tunnel

has any buddy cut there rear part of the tunnel? the little wing things i call em. would like to see some pictures of where/how they cut them. i plan on cutting my off but did not know how much strength i would loose if i cut the rounded corner off.
 
I would leave them on. Removing them would reduce the strength of that section of tunnel drastically. How much stress and strain is put on that section while riding... I'm not sure. But I would not cut those off, I've done the calculations on similar structures.

to recap you could probably do without, but I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.
 
that little roll in the edge adds a lot more strength then you imagine. it is very crucial to preventing the rear of the tunnel from buckling under a rollover where the rear bumper is pressed downward hard. i honestly bet without them if you jumped on the back it would buckle your tunnel.

also not really sure what you would be gaining other than dropping like 2-3oz?
 
tunnel mod

i cut mine off at start of season- no issues i cut above the rolled part of tunnel and flared it to where the tunnel dips in(under the edge bar)

with leaving that roll it keeps most of the original strength- something i would prob do next time.
 
reason for wanting them gone is it looks funny with them on there. stock running boards i did not like them and with my skinz air frames the wings really look out of place.
 
I like the air frames and agree the stock are terrible. Think I may be adding a set to mine before the season. Better order them know since they always seem to be out of stock. Looks good, only issue could be during any water crossing.
 
I cut mine off ,,but I used a VA rear brace and bumper!I think its now stronger!
 
Ya those wings are lame and they bend very easy. I would recommend trimming it back to match the pro rmk 155/163" tunnel. U still need a small lip for strength as others have stated.
