Wanting some honest input here .. which is the better :face-icon-small-con as the title says??? Is it worth the extra drive? we have always stayed in centennial and thinkin maybe somethin different?? just wondering if it is really worth the drive over there ? less wind blown the same ect. ?

Saratoga is a great lil town. There are some really great restraunts there. If you go... pony up the extra and stay at the Saratoga Inn. The hot tubs are WONDERFUL, the rooms are really nice and the bar is well stocked.

The Wolf Hotel has some really good food and The Cantina, if its still open, has some decent grub as well. The down side is, its 30+ miles to Chains End. Hope this helps.

Unless you are going to ride the Madres I am not sure its worth the extra drive. I have stayed on both sides. I stayed at Tenmile. Nice rooms, ride from the door. Downside is not much for amenities. If you are into cooking your own food they let you use the kitchen. Fuel across the road but its spendy. You ride the same stuff. You are just coming up from the other side.

The Old Corral is always good and don't forget about The Bear Tree! 4 less hours in the truck and 250 miles of fuel.:face-icon-small-win

There is always Albany for a change of scenery. Still on the close side. Downside 20 miles to the good stuff.

Also from Iowa and we went around last year for the first time and stayed at Ten Mile. It was fine, nice accomodations and what not, but that extra 1.5 hours that it seemed to take to get around was tough on me. For me, when we come across the pass (into Laramie), I'm checked out and need a steak and a beer. Riding was about the same either way I thought.

I'll add a little-:face-icon-small-hap

The Saratoga Resort. (formerly the Saratoga Inn) Has great food and a really good micro brewery plus natural hot springs pool and tubs

The hotel wolf has amazing prime rib

The cantina is now Dukes Bar and Grill, They have good food and really great burgers.

The biggest advantage to Saratoga is access to TWO MOUNTAIN RANGE'S !!
The snowy range upper lot is 28 miles and battle pass is 30.

We are going to give the west side a try this year. I have grown tired of staying at 10,000 feet in the howling wind. The drive up and down the mountain, the parking. We are staying at the Medicine Bowl Lodge in the Ryan park area. Closer to the good riding on the west side, dont need to go over libby flats every day and they provide breakfast lunch and dinner. Less wind, gas is available in the area.

Anyone have first hand experience with Medicine Bowl Lodge?

have ate lunch there, good food and people, thought about doing the same thing before. They had a fire since we were there and rebuilt the lodge, good luck.

Just a suggestion but if your going to make the drive to the other side I would look into staying in Riverside-Encampment and ride the Madres.
Rode both Snowies and Madres last week and Madres had way more snow.
The riding in the Madres doesn't get beat up as much either.
The nice thing about staying in saratoga or Encampment is you can pick and choice which range to ride based on the snow and visibility.

He has 2 small new cabins with kitchens that run $35 a head.
And one big cabin that sleeps 12.... Very nice place 2 miles from Encampment..
Went there once a few years back and go there everytime now.
Def worth the extra drive being able to ride to different ranges.
The Madres is a more technical, climbing, full of tree's area.. that's where the locals go.
Good luck either way... Have a great ride

We stayed at River Ridge cabins last year and have it booked for twice this year. Very awesome cabins and nice people. Last year when we were there rode the snowies first day and was tracked up, went to madres next 3 days and was great. Nice to have the options
