I want to get a portable sand blaster. I don't think ill use it alot but when i do i want it to work. I don't want to spend a ton on it though like 150 dollars. Is there a way to put on togethor your self?

Worked for a guy who had one made with a 15 gallon drum. He brazed on a fitting at the bottom to which he connected a plain section of garden hose. He then had an air gun with a tee that connected to the garden hose in such a manner that when he depressed the trigger on the air gun, a venturi would form thereby drawing sand from the drum into the bottom of the tee and out through the blowgun mixed with air from his compressor. Hard to explain without pictures, but hopefully you get the idea.

How good did it work? Also he just used like a regular blow gun for blowing stuff off, connected to the garden hose?

Try Clemco, I think they make small portables.

We have a couple of large portables

Worked really well. Yeah, he used it just like a regular blowgun, but sand would travel through the garden hose up into the blowgun and mix with the air coming out giving it the sand blasting effect. The only problem he ever had was when the sand got damp and plugged up the hose. I'm pretty sure that would happen with any sandblaster though. Also it wasn't super powerful for stripping large objects, but worked great for small stuff.

We run air driers on the compressed air, that solves the damp sand issue.
