rx1 pros and cons

I have noticed rx1s are pretty cheap. I'm looking for how you guys feel about them. I want a turbo yamaha. I can't afford a apex yet. And I really like the way they look. I've ridden plenty of turbos of 2 strokes and like them very much I've rode a rx1 around without a turbo it was a tad heavy but I can fix that lol. Thank you guys

They are heavy for sure. They have carbs which is a pro or a con depending on who you talk to. Shorter track on most to start. The prices on the apex have tanked. I have seen an 07 se as low as 4700 here in Utah with low miles. You get a lot better sled to start with without a lot more initial cost IMO.

I have good feedback to send you regarding the RX-1 Warrior or the trail version.

Are you looking at the short track, cross-over (Warrior), or Mountain sled?

Don't want to bore you with details about my machine if you are looking for at the mountain version.

Let me know..

I'm looking at mountain sleds. I have found a rx1 turbo for 5500$. I have also found a few diamond s chassis for cheap. I dnt mind weight as it can always be changed. Apex would be nice but I would have to wait for a turbo :(

Apex is essentially a fuel injected RX1. Compare the chassis in a parts catalog. A modded RX1 is a great sled. I miss my TRX1.

they are stupid simple to work on, are almost indestructable, and hare heavy.. thats the run down..

if you understand carbs and know how to work with em... they are VERY effective at fueling. also easy to drop a lot of weight, not gonna be stupid light, but very rideable..

An RX-1 is just as good as an apex. Apex is basically the same sled with fuel injection, rider forward deltabox and different plastics. Early RX-1s had a proaction rear suspension. The 05's had the Pro Mountian suspension same as the 06 and later Apex.
You can adapt the rider forward Apex steering pretty easy or buy a rider forward kit from Wildchiild or build your own.
I have seen a lot of Apex turbo and superchaged owners fooling around with their boondocker boxes. Even seen a couple get towed out due to box problems.
Meanwhile I'm tearing up hills on my TRX-1
And dont count out the Vectors either. I have seen a couple pretty good deals on them lately. Properly boosted they are no joke.

I'm really excited to get a yamaha. I would like to now how light you guys have made your rx1s weigh with your mods. I have not rode an apex yet. Let me know if someone lives in boise idaho lol. I might rent one for the day

a buddy has a turbo rx1. he has tall handlebars rider forward steering and an aftermarket tunnel and modified stock skid. the sled is stock other than that. sled is makin 300-350hp over 7000kms and not a single problem, never been towed out or broken down. its hardly any difference to ride than my apex with the the forward steering on the rx1.

I found another rx1 with a huge list of mods I'm going to check it out in a couple days. It looks really nice in the pics. Is there any bad things or common issues I should be looking for on the chassis it is a stock tunnel and lightweight rear susp and lightweight front susp as well. Also which turbo kits do you guys perfer? I also found a ton of apexs for sale. What is the weight diffs between (apex vs. Rx1) the two I can't seem to locate that info. Thank you guys so very much for all the replies.

Look for one with a front mount or mid mount turbo.
Dont buy a rear mount unless you ride it first. Most of them have pretty good amount of lag but there are guys out there that have the rear mounts figured out. Diffence in weight between RX and Apex is nil.
Some good ways to shave weight are lightweight seat, drop brackets, steering shafts, spindles and of course suspension components.

I've got a set of RX-1/Vector MPI billet lightweight drop brackets for use with 15" wide track if anone is interested. $40 plus shipping

03 RX1

I love my RX1 it was a bender and now has a rev tank and seat ond a MCX header and Scott at Diamond S is working on a new stand up intercooler. My RX1 has Nytro skid, Boss Seat, Gen 2 Skis, Nytro bar risers, Rider Forward, Light weight hood, MPI A Arms, AF gauge, Boost gauge, MPI drop brackets. and the more I love my RX1 I ride with 2 Turbo Apexs and I have no broblem hanging with them all day.

rx1

If you are looking at either an apex or rx1, I would suggest looking over the bulkhead closely. If the sled has been abused at all the cast aluminum bulkhead can crack or even break where the a arms mount and they are a pain to change out. I would also check for slop in the steering. The bushings tend to wear, but that is not that bad to fix with some oft oilite bushings. Under normal wear and tear these sleds are very durable.

I have been riding my 04 rx1 since it was new. With boost and other weight mods it is a great ride that hardly anything except another boosted sled can hang with.

Had both and prefer the apex chassis. I did a racers edge tunnel, m-10 suspension and bunch of other light weight goodies and it was a sweet sled. Thinderguyboosted on here is buying or has bought it. With all the mods that I did to it i prefer the apex chassis. Even with rider forward and shaving all the weight I didn't think they were the same.

That link that treewelldweller posted is from a company called lighting pro out of Transverse Mi. It was the only true front mount turbo. The turbo is mounted ahead of the engine. A piece of exhaust pipe came over the cylinder head to the turbo. Yes it is a draw thru system, carb is mounted the inlet of the turbo which feeds the head. It has some good ideas, but there is no intercooler. So as far as im concerned, it cant make big hp, no cooling of the intake air charge. Dont think that the company is still making turbos anymore. It likely spools very fast for the placement of the turbo thou.

If I remember right on the lightning pro's they used the fuel to cool the air. The carb was before the turbo and the fuel spray was supposed to cool the intake temps. I may be wrong though.
