RVing with Snowmobiles in the Mountains

I have this pipe dream of living near the mountains so that I can snowmobile in the mountains every weekend. I'm a software engineer though, and software engineers aren't that in demand in the mountains. Furthermore I like Minnesota, and I don't want to move.

What I think I'd like to do is live out west for a month or so during the winter and work from home, which as a software engineer is very feasible. I want to bring my dog with though, which precludes most rentals.

This has led me to consider spending a month RVing out west during the winter. Basically spending the weekdays in a city like Laramie, and the weekends in places like Centennial in the snowies. To try this out I'm thinking about renting a RV for a week from Cruise Ameria, driving out and back over 3 or 4 days while working during the day, and sledding over a 3 or 4 day weekend.

So the question I have is what are people's experience trying this?

Izzni,

I had similar thoughts as you. We bought a Diesel Pusher so I could live out this fantasy (mine). My fantasy was that we were going to go to the mountains, park the rig in the parking lot of our favorite riding spot and spend a week....

I bought a Monaco Dynasty DP with the whole Aqua Hot system, 10kw diesel generator, heated tanks, etc, etc. The problem was I did not think it through enough. It is bad enough driving an F350 pulling a 25' enclosed let alone a 40' motor home pulling a 25' enclosed across Nebraska in a blizzard with 40 mph winds. That is a cakewalk until the mountain passes.

In the end, I sold the motorhome as the fantasy did not turn out to be as fun as it was in my head.

What I think would be a very cool solution would be for a bunch hard core mid western riders who love the mountains to buy a house with a barn near a good riding area and use it as a flop house in the winter.

Who is in???
