Running board mounted scratchers

What would be the advantage to mounting scratchers to your airframes? A 3ft long scratcher? Use rail mounted scratchers like everyone else and call it a day.

Don't you think I've tried that !!! I run a 3" track with 2 sets of scratchers on my TS skid. On a hard pack trail, the rail scratchers rub on the track and don't deflect enough snow into the skid for cooling the sliders...if they worked I wouldn't be looking for an alternative.

Also, you can mount the board scratchers closer to the front of your sled, resulting in more snow getting on the skid. I have seen them, just don't know where to get them.

The doo ones are a bad design and I don't like them. They are mouthed too far back and that bolt is way too long to be supporting the skid...IMO.

for an R&D idea, run down to your local tractor supply center and get some hay rake tines and maybe heat and bend the legs some if need be but i bet you could fab up something pretty slick for nice and cheap!

Sounds like a possible breakage could really mess up a track.

Have you tried putting a bolt through the rear of your skis to shoot snow up? I havent tried it, but ive seen a lot of guys do it with good results. I believe they just run a longer bolt through the back of the ski with a big nut so when the ski travels on hard pack it drags and throws snow up...

Just an idea :face-icon-small-win

A lot of sled rental shops do this. Use 2 screws tightened together to create a stop, then a third bolt to attach to the ski. About 4-4.5" bolt.

Ski scratchers is another option:
I have seen Simmons Gen II skis with scratchers on them. There is another ski scratcher option:

That is what I did for mine. Super cheap and they worked well on ice pulling a trailer for about 5 miles up to a cabin.
