Rt1000 over heatinghowto cure anyone?

What year is it? Is it holding fluid or is it leaking? Have you pulled the motor? The 06 had a leaking front cooler that there is an update for. If you pulled the engine then you have to bleed it or park on a steep incline to burp it. The thromostat is to increase the temp because these sleds generally over cool in deep snow. The RT doesn't like to sit for long periods of time stationary also. Let it warm up and ride it like you stole it. Also if you are on hardpack then you will need scratchers. Hope this helps.

RT overheating

My son has a 2005 1000 RT that we put a 08 thermostat on. Here is the print from another thread on this forum:
"I just put a T-stat on my RT 1000, I found a 3/4" hose at carquest that has a couple bends in it that made it real nice to install.
Here are the parts I used:
08 T-Stat 509000499
08 T Fitting 509000372
Carquest hose 18867
3/4" cap HELP products 02252
The 3/4" hose will be cut to get the correct combination of bends, keeps it neat and tight."

Try this link and look at one of the last replies. It will have the pics.
The other thing to do is have the 2007 flash on the ECM and have your RAVE valves adjusted. The cables do stretch. Definately use ice scratchers for marginal snow. My son thought his was overheating, also, after we had done all of this work. Come to find out, it would spu antifreeze out the overflow until it got to a certain spot and quit. Just a bit below the midway mark on the reservoir. After that, it stayed right there and we put on another 20 miles of boondocking that day. Went for a trip the next day and no problems. Hope this helps.
Oh, and get a firm grip and HANG ON!!!

My 1000 had an over cooling problem and I ended up unhooking the rear heat exchanger. Maybe this was done to your sled if you didnt buy it new. Just a thought..

something is wrong, possibly air lock... more details on when and how it overheats would be helpful.

i had the rear cooler deleted out of my 05 and i think i might have saw the hot light blink one time riding the crap out of a trail that was SOLID ice.. and thats with no scratchers... they run SO amazingly cold.

Ya they are both great mods but the thermostat is to make the sled run hotter. These sleds are notoris for running too cold. If you are over heating after pulling the motor I would think that there is air in the system. you can fix this by just parking it on a steep incline a few times.
