RSI hi power heater elements issue

Hello there, I recently upgraded my whole handlebar setup on my 06 fusion 600 to a full RSI setup. I installed the heater elements just like the instructions said but when the sled is running, they don't seem to get that hot. They are getting warm but not anywhere near where they are supposed to be. I manually hooked up 12 volts to the connector and they get to the temp that they are supposed to be. Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm stumped. I know quite a bit about electrical and I have no idea what the problem is. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like a ground or switch issue IF they seem to work correct with full 12 volts hooked up directly. You could check the voltage with a volt meter to verify what is coming out of the switch. Verify correct installment with the instructions?

I just installed some RSI hot grips on the 09 pro taper bars but they hardly ever get warm. The aluminum bars aren't very good for hot grips.

I may be all wet here, but I remember thinking last year that there was a typo in the instructions as to which color wire goes to what. I took a pencil and traced each circuit as it ran through the heater element and noted how they tied together to make hi or low. Might take a look at the instructions, look at the wire colors and then trace the elements to see which combination has a ground or not.

I wired mine different than the instructions and they will melt ODI grips on hi. Gotta run 'em med or low. I wish I could remember all the details but I'm old. If you look it over it was clear to see as I remember. Good luck. EW

Mine on high melts the glue loose on the elements and is basically uncomfortable to hang on to for very long. Better triple check the wiring. I may have my wiring instructions somewhere in the shop if needed?

The instruction are as follows:

RSI heater:
White- high
Blue- low
Red- ground or common

Polaris side:
Blue/red- high
Blue- low
Brown- ground or common

EricW, how do you have yours wired? Like I said before, when I hook 12 volts up to it manually, they work fine, get really hot. Could it be a problem with the switch?

Djjones that wiring is correct, I have RSI's on my sled and they do work well. High setting I've found is too hot, off and low is standard running for me. Now in the past I have had the switch/control pack go bad, symptoms then were doesn't matter what you do they don't really get warm. I would say if voltage checks out from plug-in connecters get a new control pack which are surprisingly cheap now at the dealerships (considering price of parts in general) ~50.00 I believe? I do remember putting a couple wraps of elec. tape under lead-ins to warmers and then relieving-out the plastic on control blocks a bit to allow a better fit as the thicker warmers and tape make a difference on assembly. Hope this helps!

SW thanks for your info. I have solved the issue. I compared the stock Polaris heater elements to the RSI elements and noticed that it seems RSI may have made a typo in their instructions. I re soldered the connections so that they basically matched the Polaris heater elements. I connected them as follows: WHITE on the element to BROWN on harness, RED on element to BLUE/RED on harness, and BLUE on element to BLUE on harness. I started up my sled and let it run for about 5 minutes and cycled through low, medium, high, and off and they work perfectly. I agree that they may get too hot on the high setting. I just let the sled sit at idle and they seemed to be quite toasty, I cant wait to see how hot the get when the machine has been running at WOT for a little while!! :)

Exact same problem with a 08 dragon 800, Will try your solution as mine work on high but don't get very warm. Have triple checked wires with install instructions and they are good. Will try your solution. Thanks.

Thats a great post as I have the same issue. Just installed a taller RSI riser and the new high heat grips. I used molex connectors and thought that might be the problem. Good to know thats not the case.

To sum things up here; the proper connections for a Polaris IQ are:

RSI(element) to Polaris (harness)

WHITE to BROWN
RED to BLUE/RED
BLUE to BLUE
