RSI Gel Raps

C

Clarke673

Somewhere between too dumb to quit and flat earth
I love everything RSI and I promote them like no other. They have awesome customer service and make great products!

HOWEVER, I do not like the gel raps. I tried them out for 3 rides and I can’t hold on to the bars. They do not give enough padding and make the bar to small.

I am back to my $5 Scott grips that have worked for years! I will continue to buy RSI but I have to say that I do not recommend the gel wrap grips. :beer;

Unlike I_OWN I love my gel wraps I think they are the best grips I have ever tried. My only complaint is that there a one install grip. If you have to take em off they are pretty much ruined. Other than that I love mine!! Great padding and great grip. I guess its to each his own.
PS mine are the camo if it makes a difference

Just curious, what is the point of this post. The grips worked, they stayed attached. There are thinner and thicker grips. Something for everybody. You did not like them and that is your opinion. I am not trying to bash here I just don't understand.

I have the camo as well. I just can't hold on to the bars good enough when doing really aggressive riding. I use a really thin glove and i hate bar warmers so my hands are usually a little cold so all those factors come together into me not being able to hold on.

If RSI made a grip that was a little thicker with the same material that was on piece, then i would try it out again.

Just check out my sled, I got RSI decals and products all over the place! I just really don’t like the grips. Maybe I installed mine wrong? The point is that IMO the $5 scott grips are much better.

Is it important to bash a supporting vendor and product in public because you don't "like" them?

Unreal.

Perfect example why Snowest needs an product review area. This was actually a nice thread I thought. He didn't really bash on the manufacture. Just explained his experience and opinion on a product. In this case it didn't work for I_OWN_U because he couldn't hold onto the bar due to his riding style. Now people with similar riding styles can make a judgment whether the product is right for them or not.

Curious why you didn't test the over wrap configuration when you were installing them? I have them on my sled, and with the wrap you can configure the amount of overlap when doing the wrapping to get the correct bar thickness. How much of the bar did you wrap? I did about 7 inches of bar and cut off about 10" maybe of length of the gell wrap. I also made it thicker on the flats and thinner on the ends.

Just my FYI, but like you I like thicker grips, and I think it might have been your setup. Or maybe I have small hands? ;)

You are correct that you can wrap our grips with more or less overlap to create a larger round grip or a smaller round grip. A great feature of these grips. These grips actually get tackier when they get wet and over time will get tackier.

I_own_U, Couple of things.

1. If you wrap them with more overlap the grip will be larger in diameter.

2. I don't understand when you say you can't hold onto the bars? DJ Ekre one of the fastest cross country racers runs them and loves them. In fact a lot of cross country racers and Sno-Crossers are using them because of the padding, tackyness, and vibration absorbing features. I rode my sled int he mountains yesterday with them and I could hold on no problem. A bit confused.

3. Get ahold of me and I will sell you another set for a killer discount if you want to try and re-wrap them to make them larger or if you want we will sell you our 8" grips that are larger diameter design at a killer discount.

Hope this helps answer some questions. We offer 3 types of grips because people have their own opinion on what is comfortable and works for them.

Thank you.
RSI

Its all in the way you wrap. Tighter ( closer ) wrap = thicker. Totally custom application. Be creative.
You can even bump them up in places for finger holds. Super tacky !
Awesome product.
I like them SO much I am going to get a set for my quad, mtn bike, lawnmower:D, truck, hmmmmm....

Could you stand behind your products any better ?

WOW, RSI really is a stand up company :D Not many companies would do that.

I have alot of RSI components. My dealer didn';t have any Gel wraps inwhen I did my hand warmers. so I went with the regular grips. Now I wish I had waited.

I've got pretty big hands and I like my gel grips. I did waste about 3" of each grip, but after the third time of re-wrapping I had the fit and finish I wanted. Good cushion and grip in my opinion. They would not work out well if you did not overlap them enough. I did think that the adhesive would be stickier to hold them to the bars, but I hav'nt had any problems with them slipping.

I love them

I have them on a set of tag bars which are I believe 1" instead of 7/8 in diameter, and I have the heaters and the grips and if you ask me you could not get a better product. But then agian it is only what I think everyone is different. I second the lawnmower idea!!!

wow, a guy comes on and gives an honest opinion about a product.
Went out of his way to praise the company, he just didn't like the product.

This is what Snowest USED to be like.
Try something out and give your honest opinion.
If you have had a different experience, post it. Don't slam the guy for posting an honest and unbashing opinion.

gel wraps

put a set on my girlfriends sled. she had the rsi hooks also. wrapped them with a lot of overlap. she loves them and i have to say i think they are very good as well.
Maybe the level of grip depends on which way you wrap them. So the seams are like this ///// pulling against your glove, i almost don't have to hang on they grip so well.:beer;

I was not bashing. I guess I don't understand. The grips did what they were supposed to do. He didn't like the thickness of the grips. Why post on that? A couple of posts later, another person said that he would not buy them because of this post. That is all I am getting at.

seems like a reasonable review to me. he did not say they were not a good product, just not for his application. RSI came in and made their cust service known...really a free exposure for them.

I do have to ask though.....who likes cold hands? there are slugs that go inside the bars if the elements screw with you.

I like warm hands but i don't like bar warmers. I have RSI handguards and i love them!

I haveran the grip a bit more and it grew on me a bit but i realy do like me scott grips more.
