Roth or Hagar?

Kraco, sparkomatic, pioneer tune ups...I'm dying, lol!!!!
Pioneer tune-ups!!!!!! That made my day!! I had totally forgot about those. If you had tune ups around here then you were an audio God!!!!!
Not only did I have tune ups I had them mounted in the upper left and right corners of windshield

Oh and to answer op's question I like Van Halen with David Lee Roth and I like Sammy Hagar as Sammy Hagar

And I'm still mad about Eddie taking Valerie Bertinelli off the market!

Hagar and Brian Johnson. Hagar is a pretty interesting dude, caught an interview of him on AXS last week. Ferrari nut :eyebrows:

Saw AC/DC at Xcel a few years ago, and they sounded ****ing awesome, especially for their age.

DLR is not a great live singer. Saw him with VH twice and he was more interested in ballet dancing than trying to give a good vocal performance. The rest of VH however was excellent. I'm sure they were glad when Sammy joined, a guy who can sing live and keep on time with the band. I'd have to say the old VH is by far my favorite, Fair Warning is my favorite VH album. Liked Sammy much more in his older solo days, Standing Hampton is my fav of his.

As far as AC/DC goes they are my all time favorite band. Love them with Brian and Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution is my all time favorite song. Was no album bigger than Back In Black back in the day, that album is the all time quintessential rock album, a masterpiece from front to back. Though I must say that the Bon Scott days are my favorite. When my son was born tried like hell to name him Bon Scott Allen but my wife refused. Like the more simple bluesy in your face rock they played then. Powerage is my all time favorite album, absolutely love every album from TNT to Dirty Deeds. If your a fan of the Bon days you might check out a band called Rhino Bucket on youtube, they have a tune called Hey There that will transport you back to the days when women were tight and the booze flowed like water from a faucet.

Personally I like the Hagar era of VH better overall, but the first two VH albums are their best IMO. I too wish I had been able to see them when DLR was at his peak. I have been a die hard Iron Maiden fan since 1980-ish, but to this day I don't think I have ever been as excited for an album as I was for VH's 5150, and it didn't disappoint at all. I've been a Sammy fan since I heard his "Danger Zone" album. I can still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard "Why Can't This Be Love".

According to this site, the first DLR era sold 56 million albums and the Hagar era sold 29.5 million if you include 2.5 million from their live album in 1993.

David Spade was WRONG.
I've gotta vote for VanHagar.

Van Hagar? :puke:

In 1984 we had - well - we had "1984", but we also had VOA! :bounce:
Man - how can you beat that!

In 1985 I had a true Smokey and Bandit car, and had VOA blastin' out the T-tops as loud as she's go (and still sound good). I will admit to also playing Reckless quite a bit too, but not so much b/c I liked the album (I did like the one song) but that tape was on chrome, and the SuperTuner (I or II?) had a chrome/Dolby switch, and to this day I am in awe of the sound of that tape in that car!

Then - next thing you know - we had .... 5150 and SkyScraper. :puke:
Two puss_ .... uh .... Two "beebop" albums....

They took two super RR groups, put them in a bag, shook them up, and dribbled them back out. And apparently - they shook all the "rock" out of everyone there!

What a changing of the guard's time for rock!
Zepplin released The Honeydrippers, which was a radical change... But in all honesty, Plant's solo stuff is good "albums" to listen to. I have several. Most? Prolly not all...

Bad Company split about then, and we ended up with The Firm (Jimmy Page/Paul Rogers) which of all the changes at the time - was one that was AT LEAST as good as anything that we could have expected from them previously. Both of those albums are worth having in the changer! (and fortunately - not overplayed on the radio since the migration away from AOR.)

Other major let-downs of the time were Afterbirth and Third Abortion!
(Not that Tom wanted to make that album in the first place...)

5150 guys?
Are you kidding me?
Which bathroom doo you "fella's" use?
Did you wear out "Look What the cat Dragged in" too? :yuck:

I put down the AC/DC and DIO long ago, and prefer to listen to '70's AM, or 70's Outlaw Country these days (John Hiatt playing currently tho) but VOA and 1984 are still staples in the playlist. No 5150 or Skyscraper in the 'putors playlist. I prolly have 5150 on vinyl squirreled away in the other building, but only b/c I use'ta DJ party's. (Gurls want to hear it, and the guys wanted whatever the gurls wanted...)

What did you think of Bad Company W/Brian Howe at vocals?
I prefer his voice to Paul Rogers, but total different sound and I understand die hard fans not liking it.
Dangerous Age is my favorite BC Album.

I used to DJ clubs, wedding dances, class reunions etc myself!
Love to have a few beers with you sometime!

I have Fame and Fortune on vinyl as well, and always liked it. It's certainly not "old BadCo" tho! I recall listening to an interview with _ then BadCo on Rockline, or In the Studio, or ??? and someone called in live and asked something about the Fame and Fortune album. (It couldn't have even been 5 yrs old at the time) I remember their comment was "Oh! That's where that other copy of that album went!"

I guess it flopped in sales?

I don't have the next album, but then I have Holy Water and Company of Strangers. Those two I have on disk, so they are in the 'putor and play in the normal routine. Their OK I guess... But if I was driving down the road and was going to plug something in the truck radio to "listen" to, it would hafta be older BadCo for sure!

I don't know that I need to hear the original "Bad Company" album anymore - just that it's worn out to my ears is all, but I like Rough Diamonds, Straight Shooter, and Run with the Pack. Most are songs that haven't made it on any airways [again] since AOR died. So they are still good songs to listen to! LOL!

Well, I don't drink beer (alcohol), and I haven't been to SD in a coons age, but maybe see you in Cooke or DuBois one day? .

BTW - I was still editing my replies on this and the other thread while you were posting.

I am generally found on a "machining" site instead these days...

This is such a dangerous time in a bands career. New singer, new writer .... same name?
If the name changed, you would expect some changes. (Airplane, Jefferson, Starship) but to keep the same name and a completely diff sound can go either way.

One example that did not even involve any of that _ that sticks in my mind is Queensryche. I recall a chum of mine hating "Empire" for many years! He wanted another Mind Crime, and this was _ not _ that! 20 yrs later - he has decided that Empire aint THAT bad, and that he would prolly have liked it if it was released by some name other than Queensryche. He's expecting this ... and got ... that...

While I was not on board the Mind Crime wagen until after Empire came out, I have got to agree with him.
What was I saying about Concept Albums earlier?

Trivia - w/o looking it up - doo you know the first album on Swan Song Records?

You forgot Peter Cetera and Michael McDonald.

It's been a while since I've seen either band, but I am not sure that they play much if anything from those era's of their life in concert these days?

Scott, you know I was :boink: you eh?

I really like Chicago, but I don't buy into the idea that Cetara is the kingpin of the group. I like the music, the full multi-layered c harmonious experience that is Chicago.

Now Michael McDonald, that guy sounds like he is trying to keep a half dozen rabbit turds in his mouth while he sings.
