Roosterbuilt..Put to the test!

I'll be the first to say...If something isn't broken, don't fix it...which is how i felt about clutching on the first couple of rides on my 09 xp when compared to the '08 xp and the '07 rev i had previously ridden/ridden with. I told my self that i'd leave everything alone as my 09 seemed to pull hard, maintain rpm's, which is what i was looking for in a good setup....then I read alot about RB on this forum and decided against my previously stated motto and went Roosterbuilt.....now the test.

Went out for the first ride yesterday to one of my favorite early season spots, and man o man did we find some snow...4+ feet of bottomless pow...not the typical early season wet heavy snow with no base (in my riding area anyway), it was soft, fine fluffy snow, making it even harder to stay on top, and the temp was 14 degrees F. had to cross a couple of creeks to get to the honey hole, so take wet suspension, cold temps and fine snow with no base, and your sled turns in to a brick with skis on it.....but the Rooster was crowing!

My whole sled was a solid block of ice, but you'd never know it by the way it was running.....excellent up shift, backshift, smoother engagement and spot on target rpms...wasn't messing with my clickers all day, just set it to what they recommended..and start bustin' pow. Before my sled was Roosterbuilt, with conditions like that, my rpms would fade after being wide open in the pow for a long time and then turning up a hill...(from the heat generated by the hard pull and everything being plugged with ice)...definitely not the case now. My clutches were put through some of the most demanding conditions i've ever encountered and just kept on goin. i loved the throttle response...power was instantly there when i needed it.

I definitely won't say that i didn't get stuck; I was stuck about a dozen times in the trees and buck brush trying to get up to the honey hole...putting even more stress on the clutches. Once we got out of the really thick stuff and closer to the honey whole.....Hammer down and pullin hard! all the way in to the honey whole....

The only thing missing on the Roosterbuilt clutch kit was a preseason workout program cause my sled was in alot better shape than me this first season ride!!! haha

As well as my sled performed in conditions like this...i cant wait to see how it will do when i encounter the "normal" conditions in my riding area..(still the pow, but a little heavier and warmer, with a base, making it easier to stay on top of the snow, and my sled not being a block of ice)

A big thanks to the guys at Roosterbuilt..Fast Friendly service, and most importatly...a great product. I'm not purposely trying to advertise here, i just believe that when someone puts out a good quality product, they deserve credit for it.....Thanks Roosterbuilt and everyone on this forum that properly reviewed there product...

Nicely done, :first: Clutching is everything.

good to hear, pauls has good stuff

so lets hear more about your 4feet location, we are in search of the white stuff for a ride this week, we ride hungryhorse and ten lakes, how is east glacier

than ks

Stock XP clutching is brutal. The only reason your 09 held rpms was because the belt was slipping in the secondary.

There is such an opportunity for qualtiy aftermarket clutch kit suppliers to make huge improvements to the XP.

the flathead valley got hit pretty hard this past week with snow (mountains surrounding anyway..) hungryhorse should be good, don't konw about east glacier, whitefish range is also pretty good. lots of land mines anywhere you go even though the snow is deep. trick is to find drainages where snow accumulates early, not everywhere has the same snow depth...happy hunting

I'm happy with the roosterbuilt clutching in my 09 163 it did everything I was told, i'm now waiting for paul and his crew to develop a kit for the e-tech 800 :face-icon-small-hap

I haven't got mine on the snow yet since installation, but they were great to work with and could help with anything over the phone when you call. I am excited to try it out because i dont know if I have heard a bad review of an rb clutch kit yet. Hopefully we will get out west around the 3rd week of december
