Rode Monte today. It sucked.

Took a stab in the dark today and rode Monte after a shop employee told is he rode it yesterday and "It was great, 8" of new snow "
When we got there it was tracked out and even the snow that wasn't tracked was baked or scoured or both.
Definitely the downside to riding an unfamiliar area not knowing where to go.

We did find the best snow when riding in the trees the further we got from the superhighway... I mean trail.

Hoping to find deeper snow tomorrow...

Sorry for the negativity, just wishing it was better.

Anybody else ride today or have a suggestion for something better?

Gotta go north or south. Logan or fairview will offer you some great opportunity. The strong winds of late haven't helped. New storms tonight and thursday though.

It gets pounded on the weekend.
La Platta is good but Logan and South is much better at this time.

Sorry if my OP sounded bitter, when I left California there was no significant snow on the horizon. Got a call that a foot fell at my house and more on the way.

For sure Monte gets pounded on the weekend, you could see how that happens.

One of the good things about the small sled community in California.

Thanks for all the tips and insights, we bailed and just arrived in Alpine, WY.

We rode Monte Sunday. The first time I had been there in years. I got lucky and rode with someone that rides there alot....needless to say, it didnt suck. We found great snow and no tracks, but like you mentioned you had to get far enough away and know where to go. I have no idea where we were but I know it was north of the highway.

EVERYONE stay away from Fairview... Rocks and dirt everywhere!!!! Dont, i repeat, DONT even try!!!

Monte is good for beginner trail riders. There is really no place to get in deep powder and trees! :face-icon-small-win Just stay on that super highway...
