Back from my first full day's ride on a Pro 163...

In a word - IMPRESSIVE!!!

Right from the get go I could tell this machine was a strong runner, I like the new stiffer track and it won't hesistate to break that puppy loose any time you pin her, she's got some punch on the trail. That punch continues the rest of the time too, a very strong motor and very very snappy... the second you hit that flipper you are gone - no lag waiting for the motor to spin up like with the 900s. My hands were getting sore from holding on so tight... it takes off like a rocket when you want it to, and I thought my sled was fast:eek::D

Getting to the hillclimb, this thing's not a bad climber. The hill today (being a Sunday) was ALL tore up, trenches everywhere.:face-icon-small-dis We managed to find a small area that had a couple square inches of fresh snow left between the trenches to get a feeling for it's top-end power, which is respectable. I felt the top end was very close to what mine and my friend's 900 is, not necessarily better, but very close in the pulls we were able to do.... the lightweight really helps keep it on top of the snow and makes sidehilling a total breeze- Verdict - it's pretty dang good at the climbs for a stock 800:face-icon-small-coo

Moving on to boondocking through the trees, the smile gets bigger - NOW this sled is in it's happy place, you can get into trees so tight and even the 163 turns on a dime and floats like no other.... I couldn't believe how it stayed on top of the snow in tight stop & go conditions - a true JOY to ride in the trees so tight your shoulders hit them and you have to duck under the limbs:eek::D My shoulders and back are very relaxed after lots of turning and pulling, not trying to muscle that 900 TANK around in there. Carving up the meadows was equally enjoyable, the sled is so light on the front end you just turn and lean and your in a nice carve. I enjoy carving on my 900 and it does pretty good for a big sled - technique was the same just required that much less effort to throw around a sled that's 80 lbs lighter than mine:face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-hap If you want to just get a nice tight donut, this is the sled, hang a leg off for a tight turn and you'd think you were on a short tracker.... with the narrow panels you can get this thing all the way on its side and holy smokes does it do a nice set of donuts!!!:cheer2:

Back down the beaten trail through the trees was fast - hardly any pushing with this setup, the Grippers REALLY shine on this sled, PERFECT match for light steering and responsiveness.... I was moving so fast I had to stop and wait for Mark - In his own words "THERE'S JUST NO WAY I CAN KEEP UP WITH YOU, YOU'RE HAULING AZZ!!!"

So far there is really only one thing I do not like about the sled, and that is the running boards. While the 18" area in the middle where you stand 99% of the time stays nice and clean, the rest of them do get clogged up with snow VERY fast and get slick really quick. This is where I LOVE having the running board heat exchangers - even if the center gets clogged with snow, you always have a good footing on that outside edge - I can't say that with the PRO, I prefer the stock 900 heated running boards better.

All in all I would say Polaris has a real winner on their hands here, I'm in love! And that is coming from a die-hard 900 fan, I love my sled, but this new kid on the block has some nice moves!

Videos to follow once I get them uploaded:D

I went through the videos I got before I ran out of memory space, not as much as I was hoping, but here's a couple.

I really enjoy tree riding and my 900 does it well, just a little heavier to throw around and doesn't have the turning radius the PRO does.

Some climbing and some trees... pretty tore up hill, but it was all we had to work with at the time. Not quite the same top end torque of the 900, but good for an 800.

And another with some more playing in the trees and on the small hill.... hard to find much fresh but that's how it goes sometimes.

not really my impresion of the pro at all . what suspension do you have on your 9 . I prefer the raw chasiss to either. maybe the 163 was the difference too. as I sit here thinking I remember thinking I would buy a 163 .

I should ride the 155 in good pow again tomorrow .

On the other hand I rode the 05 900 TM3 clutched and dialed today and I if your 9 lacked snap you should ride this one . I am gonna rock the house in that pow again tomorrw on that old beast.

Stock suspension under mine with 08 spindles and grippers - Ryde FX aluminum adjustables w/ rear clicker.

I have ridden a 155 once for a short time and this 163 feels stronger, probably the added traction from the longer track.

I gotta say I am really impressed with the sled, I love my 900, but the new one is very appealing IMO.

Not that I can afford a new sled tho, lol.... I hope to put at least another 1500 miles on my 9 before retiring it:D

I'm also not trying to compare a modded sled to a new stocker, If your gonna compare something IMO it needs to be apples to apples. Compared to many of your guy's sleds, mine is relatively stock with just the mandatory upgrades; gearing, bumper, float plate, skis, spindles, and a couple of the other necessities (vents, etc).

Remember, when you rode my 155, it was still in the break-in mode and was running the ethanol plug. Food for thought.:face-icon-small-ton

Definitely a sweet looking machine. You can see the snow piling up on the board in the photos, do you think some snow eliminators would help?

Hey, check the connectors on that tail light if you get a chance and let me know if they will plug in on the 900.

Sean let me down and didn't look when he was testing one.

Seth...

Awesome post.

Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your experiences and your opinion of what you were able to ride.

I had pretty much the same experience as you did and can say that the PRO RMK's are real smile makers, and with the same rider on them... they can go places that the 900's or other IQ's just cant get to.

In comparison to the 900... it does have less "grunt"... but the cost of that "grunt" is lots of Gyroscopic force put into the chassis that makes it less nimble...no matter the rider.

Here is a larger picture of my point CLICK HERE

I really have not noticed any "lag" in my 900's that the new 800 had the trump-card over though.

Thanks Seth.

Some kind of a board replacement would be needed for sure, even the stock solid 900 boards are better IMO because they will melt off the outside edge for positive footing there, the PRO does not have that feature.

No way to see the wiring or the connectors, it's all concealed.... Interesting idea though, I don't see why you couldn't MAKE it work, lol

That is not good. Guess snow eliminators or better boards would have to go on right away. I have bad memories of slipping off the chuck of ice and planting my foot in the snow.

Rode a new 800 pro the other day, I wasn't impressed, I'll just keep the XP.

Thanks MH,

"LAG" as I referred to it really isn't the proper word, just not sure how better to phrase my feelings to how the motor snaps up so fast. It's hard to convey, I don't by any means consider my sled to be laggy, it rips IMO, lol.:D

Yes, the Gyroscopic difference is HUGELY noticeable, this thing is so easy to toss around under you that you forget you are riding a 163" sled, it feels so much easier. In the first few minutes getting into the trees, I was trying 'technical' sidehills I have never tried on my 900, it honesty made me feel MUCH more confident of my abilities. I try to take very good care of my stuff and don't beat the snot out of it to have a good time, to that end, I am even more careful with equipment that doesn't belong to me... Feeling confident enough to try new things with a machine that isn't mine and that I can't afford speaks volumes to me of how rider-advancing this chassis is - stock to (almost) stock:face-icon-small-hap

Remember, when you rode my 155, it was still in the break-in mode and was running the ethanol plug. Food for thought.:face-icon-small-ton

Yes it was, and we were in almost 30" of new snow with practically no base - that 155 truly impressed me in its flotation and traction.:beer;:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-coo

Nope... not a plug/play... The PRO RMK tail-light circuit is DC... All the IQ's are AC

You can run it if you have a relay setup like others have for running an LED light on an IQ.

I will try to go through my helmet cam and get some videos uploaded later today/tonight.... it ran out of memory so I am hoping I can find a few good vids before it shut off:face-icon-small-dis:face-icon-small-hap
