RMK vs Assault rails

2 questions here. I was looking in the 2011 brochure comparing the dry weights of the 155 Pro at 431 and the Assault at 446. In my uneducated estimation, i figure the Assault track weighs 10 lbs more thus making the 2 sleds only 5 lbs different with the same 5.1 track on. Does this sound right?

Question 2 I understand that the Assault has beefed up rails compared to the RMK. Do they have the same approach angle. I really would prefer the Assault because of the heavy duty suspension, but I dont want to give up powder performance. I would change the track out for sure.

The wider a-arms and the shocks (oil in the resevoir) make up the other 5-8 lbs or so...the assault skid has an extra cross support in it? and the approach angle could be the same if you drilled out the upper front skid mount location in the tunnel on the assault and moved it up to where the location on the regular and pro-rmk is.

when I purchased my pro I studied the rails and rear suspension on the assault next to a PRO RMK to see where if there were any differences between the two. The only thing I saw were the different rear shocks, springs, but the rails looked identical. No additonal bracing that I could see.

There is an additional brace between the Rails near the rear shock on the Assault...the limiter rear skid and strap is mounted to the tunnel at a lower positiion on the Assault compared to the PRO...suspension is about 4lbs heavier on the Assault...the assault track is 10lbs heavier...

If you want your Assault to be more like a pro...throw the 5.1 track on it, adjust the skid higher in the tunnel...and the rest is a wash

So with the limiter strap mounted much lower does the assault tend to wheelie more then the pro?

the way it sounds to me is get a standard rmk and put the assault shocks and springs in it and be money ahead and sounds like a lot less work too. just my .02

The external resevoir shocks that come on the Assault at real expensive. Upwards of 1500 for the set. They won't work unless you put the wider front end on. If you went aftermarket that's another $500...Not money ahead

Sounds like an Assault with the Fastrax drop n roll would be the Shizzznit. How is everyone liking the Walker spring shocks?

I agree. Thats what the dealer told me yesterday too. He is even sorry he took the 5.1 off and installed the Camo. Sounds like I already found me a track.

I was real happy with mine, rode my buddies after he re-valved and put different springs on, his with the different valving and springs was much better. Some of my friends around here have the z-broz exit shocks with 3 stage springs. They are phenominal, definetly a step up from the walker's but spendy too.

oooooooooo.. did not know that. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :)

Do people think the Assault shocks are really THAT much better than the Walkers on the Pro?? For most mountain riding (that I do anyway) that seems unlikely. Just my opinion.

Depends on how you ride and what you want to do with your sled. Once you have ridden any sled with properly setup shocks/suspension I would think you would feel more is always better!

only reason i ordered the pro was because of the front end. if i ordered an assault i'd have a wider front end and have to swap out the track. with the pro i take the 400 dollars i saved and put that to carl's revalving my shocks to my weight and set up tight for jumping.

thats what i was kinda thinking of getting the regular rmk and putting on different shocks.

yeah but you won't have the mud flap with the holes in it, that's just silly to go without oh and the carbon bumper that needs to be replaced with a decent one as well, man that's just dumb :face-icon-small-hap, that's what a lot of people have done and i think they made the right choice.

The external reservoir shocks are very much worth it. The first clickers I have used that go from soft to very stiff with a quick twist. Get done climbing and want to race the 10 miles back to the lodge? It's the only way to go. I have a 5.1 on my 155 and absolutly love it. It dosent wheelie with the 155 and a 5.1, the original track launched like no tomorrow. It would try to tear itself out of your hands though in the afternoon. The brake like the pro RMK is perfectly quiet. I really like that aspect. I don't know about the standard RMK brake.

I am hoping for 2 things from Polaris:

1. a 2012 155 600 assault for my wife
2. I get more than two years without losing a motor on my 2011.

So you put a 5.1 on your assault and it helped keep the front end down? How was the original track in the pow?

The original track in the POW was OK as long as you feather the throttle and don't trench. It will not climb with the 5.1. I like the 5.1 better than my 2008. It seems stiffer and hooks up better. They say the CE is a good track and is extremly stiff like the Assault track. After riding the assault in this chassis, I would be hard pressed to go back to a RMK. I think the suspension and wider front end is more stable. I weigh 200lbs, and pulling the assault is a breeze.
