RMK 900 What's the deal

I totally agree with himark!!! I HATE it when people sh!t talk the 900 but never drove one, i told a guy at haydays that all of my brothers and dad ride the 900's and he told me i should be shot! and then i asked him if he ever drove one for at least a day and he was like no, but i hear soo many bad things about them......it pissed me off

and if I were you take 90% of the talk on here as here say because alot of guys speak from no experience.

Boy that's a for sure.

If you don't own an Apex you hate them. If you do you love them. Same thing with every sled out there. I've never owned one, but I rode with 3 guys who had 06 900's. They ran great for 2 years until they traded for new Dragons. They were competative in every catagory. In certain snow conditions and stock I've seem them out pull every stock sled of any color from 800's to 1000's. It's all in the buy.

I know a lot of guys talked bad about them, but a guy from Polaris even said the 900 motor was not economically feasible to continue to build and warranty. That comment from a Polaris "big wig" did as much damage as all of the num nuts on here. Like I said, i've never ridden one but have seen a couple in the Snowies ripping it up!

Himark good post.

The most fun I had on my 900 was getting all the crap about ridding it yet it was able to hang with 80% of the NA mods out there all day long every day.

But then Boost came along LOL

That thing looks SICK! I don't think you could really still call it a 900 Polaris though! Lot's of pretty stuff on there brother! Awesome looking ride!

the 900 is a good place to start with a mod sled IMO! Cheap and tons of potential . They suck stock as you have read . The 06 is a slightly better stock machine than the 05 so look for an 06 if you can . if you buy one for 5k or less you can do 5 k in mods and and still have 1500.00 left versus buying an new sled and with 5 k in mods you can make a 900 one bad MOfO than will eat alot of sleds out there! on the other hand an 06 or 07 dragon 700 would be a fine choice as well ! you might look for a used XP also everyone seems to love them when they were not in the shop!;)

Last year I bought a used 05 900 off of a fellow snowester. Its has had all the updates done and had 2000 miles on it. I only got to put about 300 miles on it last year and besides a couple sets of plugs the thing ran like a champ. Seems to have an endless amount of torque. I also have an 05 M7 and if I have to only take one the M7 stays home. The 900 has the power to pull you out of everything and isn't as "flickable" as the M7, but I find the M7 to flickable and usually end up overcompensating and in the opposite bushes. But the 900 is just right. I wouldn't shy away from one.

that is pretty sweet looking, it looks like skeletor, except black lol

Good call, but it reminds me more of Cringer aka Battle Cat

:)

Wow.

If I ever build up an Arctic Cat sled that's what the paint scheme is gonna be for SURE. hahahah :)

I had a RMK 900 also, I had no idea it was a bad sled till I read the snowest forum. I rode it for two years, 2400 miles and it never left me stranded, it ate a couple of belts at first, but then so do some of the other new sleds being sold today.

I have an 06 900 rmk and love it, no problems with it and about a 1000 miles on it, all my brothers and dad own these sled and love them also, all together we have 1-05 900 and 3-06 900's and the only problem we had is in my one brothers 06 he had a crank issue, other than that great sleds, wouldn't sell mine unless i could afford a turbo dragon 800.......

Huh? So 25% of your sample had crank issues and that is ok?

Sorry, couldn't help pointing that out ;)

Problem is that everyone that hated the 900s has long since gotten rid of them so the only guys left are those that are still holding on to them.

It's no secret that I hate them. Yes, I rode them and worked on them and now I won't do it any more. Polaris messed up with the 900, they admitted it and pulled the plug. I think there are much better options for spending your money than on the 900.

But they are for sure stupid cheap to buy one now... funny thing, you can buy an '06 used 900 for less money than an '04 Escape 800... even with the 800s known crank issues. Maybe the market knows something.

I did notice that Polaris is offering up to $1295 cash back on '05/'06 900 hold overs. So it would appear that some dealers still have some sitting on the floor.

If you buy a bone stock one it's going to be more than $1000 to $1500 to make the needed improvements. And even after that you'll still be riding a 900 that is worth nearly nothing on resale and still vibrates and may well eat belts and will probably toss a crank and so on and so forth.

Did I mention I think you should spend your money somewhere else?

There are 3 sides to every story. Yours, mine and the truth (which is also MY story).

LOL

I think why the guys hate them so much, is cause they get beat all the time by a sled that is suppose to be a pile of junk and they find out that they paid twice as much for theres and could of bought a 900 for half the money:face-icon-small-win

buy it"

I have 5000 miles in the last two years on my 05 and no problems. Each year I add on some more toys and it is still surprising me. love this sled.
cheers

We have 3 06 900 rmk 166" tracks. Combined we have over 7k miles on the sleds. One of the sleds required a new crank at 2k miles because of a recoil issue. The crank was covered under the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. We bought all three new at the begining of last season and all three are close to stock other than removing the front radiator and aftermarket can. These sleds are geared and clutched wrong from the factory which causes a ton of problems. Out here in deep baker snow the torque really comes in handy. My 2 cents is they are a great sled but I would not want to own one out of warranty. But then again I ride to much to own any brand of sled out of warranty. In my opinion the only stock sled that will out highmark a 900 rmk in 3ft of fresh snow is an 05 REV 1000 when clutched correctly.

Liked mine

I bought a 05 50th when they first came out. I loved the sled I had the SLP pipe, front intake conversion and a TFI Chip. The only problem I ever had with it was the TFI chip coming disconnected. Other than when I finally totaled it missiling it off a blind cliff and random stumps. Loved the holz lightweight front end kit by the way. After my mods i was able to keep up with my buddy on his 06 REV with a Hawg shop motor. But i am also a bigger guy the weight didnt bother me at all it was well balanced. For the right price I would buy another but im content on building my own custom sled.
