RKT drop in kit w/ SLP exhaust

I just finished installing the RK tek piston and head drop in kit on my '13 Pro. Kelsey set me up with a 13.5 cheater head with the wossner pistons/rings. After installing it I got a hold of him about setup....Clutching, fuel maps, etc.

I had a SLP pipe on from last year and planned to run it again with this new top end but He says not to run the SLP exhaust with his setup, that it will lose power.
Now I know I have read many times on here that this setup works awesome when piggybacked with SLP exhaust. So what gives? should I run the SLP pipe or not? and if so, which fuel map should I start with??

I have tried it I didn't see any benefit or power gain from it, the stock pipe works great with his drop in kit. some guys say it works I say run the stock pipe at least on the 13 not sure about the 11-12

It will work fine. don't hesitate to use the slp setup. Rk teks parts are a different head design, compression ratio and forged pistons.

All of which have little to do with pipe selection. Run the slp its fine.

Couldn't tell ya because I haven't tried anything, but I will be runnin it with the SLP pipe this year. People say don't use it but I got it so I'm gonna try it.

This will be my first year running the RK Tech drop-in kit and head matched with the SLP pipe and can on my 11. Make sure to use the stage 4 map on the PCV. From what I have heard, the gains of running the SLP with the drop-in kit and head are about doubled compared to running just the drop-in kit and head. But I haven't ridden yet this year due to this wonderful cold and dry weather we are having.

I don't know why you would run a pipe that the engine builder says will lose power? Vohk also agrees that nothing is better that stock.

If the SLP pipe gives the stock sled a hp gain I don't understand why it would lose hp with the RKT kit. The kit isn't changing port timing or stroke length, its just lighter better pistons and a higher compression head. I would think the 2 would complement each other.

The drop in kit does change port timing, if you are using direct replacement pistons and head maybe it would work fine, it will run and run ok but not going to get double the power like some guys are thinking

Here's my take on running a after market pipe with the drop in kit.

DI kit moves more air by changing port timing.

Stock pipes are built "loose" to keep temps down for warranty reasons.

After market pipes are built "tight" to raise temps and increase hp on stock motors.

If you combine a motor built to move more air and a "tighter" pipe built to raise performance on a stock motor you lose power.

I'm no expert so if someone wants to say I'm wrong go ahead:face-icon-small-coo

I ran the drop-in kit and head with a JAWZ can and was very impressed. I decided to go with the SLP set up because of the success other guys were having. But like I said, I have not ridden yet this year. From what I have heard and witnessed, the gains are amazing.

I did all last year, so have many others...Supreme Power Sports (Jeremy) in Lewiston, ID set me up and i modified the Stage4 SLP map and added fuel here and there...If you have it, run it

Just got setup. RKT 14.1 head, SLP pipe, HPS can, Jeremy's clutching with rooster weights, PCV with low elevation stg. 4 map. Added little more fuel at 8500 thanks to Jeremy. Going to run 100LL, maybe be able to change that to a lesser octane but figured it's a start. Getting ready to do a test this weekend in the ditches. Hope I'm on the right track...

Oh this is all at 1000'. Don't ride around here much just when the snow is decent.

on our 12's and 13's we all already had pipes as do many of you it sounds like so we ran them and adjusted fueling as needed. is there a night and day difference, NO. but running it side by side with a non piped sled it definitely didn't hinder the performance by any means. This video is just a drag race and yes i know more goes into a drag race than just power but its as good of a comparison as i have. to my left black blue pro is an slp stage 2, all black is stock pro, and to my right that you never really get a good angle of is a drop in kit only pro. all 13's, the one to my right and the black one were 163's and the black and blue and my black and gold one were 155's. i feel there is a difference with the right clutching and fueling and love the set up. However if you don't already have a pipe i don't feel its worth the money to go buy both and stack them, its just not a $700 difference... my .02 cents
