Rivets

What rivets do you guys use when replacing tunnels or bumpers..aluminium or steel rivets..and what size..i measured 4,3-4,4mm diameter holes.
I need some black ones since I have a Nightfire edition.

steel rivets, and 3/16" diameter. Length depends on location of where you will be riveting. PN from cat for a black rivet used in the tunnel is 8060-504

It seems that cat switched to a rivet just smaller than 3/16". Metric? Not sure what year they started that. The ones that hold the coolers in the corners of the tunnel seemed to be slightly smaller yet. I always just ream the holes to 3/16 and use Napa rivets when I can on bare aluminum. Steel ones are needed. I tried using aluminum ones once on a rear tunnel section and they didn't last more than a couple seasons before they got loose. For black ones I think you are stuck going through Cat. Get the rivets first and measure them.

Yamaha makes a "ringed" rivet, that has washer type rings in it in several areas to match the thickness you are working with, to tighten the components better than most other rivet styles. Ski

I have found that if you buy cheaper quality rivets they are not always spot on with their diameter. Steel quality rivets fit in the 3/16" hole just fine. Ive rebuilt 4 dfferent M series/crossfire chassis and used all 3/16" rivets and 5/32" rivets for the tunnel coolers.

ok so its 3/16 in the chassie/tunnel and 5/32 in the tunnel cooler..good to know.
Now i only need to find black steel ones...anyone know if Polaris/BRP/Yamaha make some?
