RIP Joe Pa!

It is a sad day for college football, and its' fans! I have studied Joe Paterno and his life throughout my life. Sports are not the most important thing in the world, and may even seem silly to some. However, many of us have learned very important life lessons through playing them. I still regret not having tried to play for him at Penn State, which was one of my goals as a high school player. Child abuse is a very serious, and ugly part of this world. It is awful that such a good man's legacy was tainted severely by another monster's (Jerry Sandusky) despicable actions! He self-admittedly did not do enough to bring Sandusky to punishment. RIP Joe Pa!

WHAT?? I knew he was diagnosed with lung cancer in Nov. Did he die this morning?

I just got done reading in todays paper that he's not doing well and had taken a turn for the worse.

That was quick. Good that he will not have to deal with the next two+ years of court dealings on that perv Sandusky.

RIP JoePa

Sad day, and even sadder that his legacy has this black eye on it.

I'm in the middle of watching the Penn State/Iowa wrestling dual from tonight. They paused for a moment of silence at the beginning of it.
I'm glad they did.

A quote from Joepa

When asked years ago what his epitaph should be, Paterno said,

“I hope they write I made Penn State a better place, not just that I was a good football coach.”
We will write that because it’s true

I've read a lot of comments on local news sites, and the media has shredded him and his reputation. Some ignorant people have gone as far as confusing him for Sandusky.

Would you still have the same respect for Joe Pa if it was one of your kids that had been molested? Paterno effectively gave Sandusky a pass, by not going to the police directly.

A great coach, he will be missed but the knowledge of what was happening in his facility and program that is tough to overlook no matter how great a coach he was.

Yeah.....there are MANY ways to looking at it, and I'm sure this situation will be used as examples in ethics and philosophy classes for DECADES.

He did report it, but didn't follow up on it enough.

A gu could debate both sides of that to exhaustion, but it's not so black and white. PLENTY of grey area left open to interpretation.

Jizzo....you are glad he is dead? Really? Wow! Enough said!

I think what happened to those boys by Sandusky is absolutely horrific! I hope the justice system gives him what he deserves. As a father, I have some other thoughts and ideas for him. Joe Paterno saw NONE of it, however! It was reported to him, and he reported it to the school authorities. He admitted that he should have done more, and it is a shame and tragedy he, and others, did not. I think there was a lot of wrong doing in the situation. Child abuse, in any form, is unconscionable!!!! I have read the report, all of it, and what happened to those boys is terrible! However, although Joe Paterno may not have done enough, he did NOT abuse one single child!

He knew Sandusky was diddling boys and he did nothing. NOT COOL PEOPLE! Glad hes dead.

WOW, I missed this post.

SERIOUSLY??????????

I'm sure you'll get some red apples coming your way...and not just the thumbs down kind...but the other kind...the kind with weight.

Exactly....There are alot of people that take the media as the truth and yet they are far from it most of time. Sandusky is the criminal, the higher ups that capped this are the criminals. Do you hear much more about them????NO and that is because they cant get the spin off of them. Paterno has been a cash cow for the media and they have shredded him only because he gets the most play. Plain an simple.

This as you say, good man's legacy is not tainted severely by what the monster Sandusky did. It is tainted by what Paterno did not do.
