Riding The Ruby's May 31, Great Day With A Few Pics

My son and I took our oldschool sleds out for one last ride of the season in the Ruby's this morning, we had a blast. The snow above 9,000' is hanging in there pretty well but the snow at the turnaround may be inaccessible by next weekend. It sure is nice to have a mountain range like the Ruby's in your backyard. I was a little bummed looking in my rearview mirror knowing I won't back for probably 5 or 6 months. We sure had a great season in Nevada this year. I'll attach a few pictures from this morning.

Looks like awesome summer fun! I am in Twin Falls, I need to head your direction and ride next year - it looks like fantastic sledding country!

I never really thought of it as summer fun but I guess it is. Lamoille Canyon is a rather small area to ride but it has anything and everything depending on your flavor. Come on down, I'm sure you'd enjoy it, I don't think I've ever had a dull day in the Ruby's no matter what the snow conditions were.

check the idaho riding section we did the same thing yesterday and loved it, but the summer is going to suck!

Nice pictures and some awsome climbs.:beer;:D

Looks like a great time!

Can you discuss those fans on the belt guard? Wiring , type and operation.

Don,
Those fans are simply a 12 volt fan that is run off the lighting coil. They don't do much good when running hoodless but I've found they get rid of the stagnant hot air when running with the hood on. I cut a vent in the hood near the fan and try to introduce a little cool air onto the hot belt. They are quite reliable and do drop your belt temps a bit (10 to 15 degrees). They are not a cure all, but they do help. Tri-City performance experimented with this set-up quite a bit the last few years. Many claim that if you have good clutching something of this nature is not needed, but with belts approaching $100 a pop, I feel the $30 dollar fan is a good addition to any sled.

:DYou guys are riding all that snow that i was wading through at 12000 Ft. on my deer hunt up there in early october. Those first couple storms were big, and screwed me up. Makes for good riding for you though, nice pics. If you find a sleeping bag, and a tent, pm me:o. They had to stay up there, so i could get the deer down:D Sweet sleds too!

I'll keep my eyes open. That's some nasty country to hike in even if you have solid footing. I photographed what many think would be a new state record rocky earlier this year, alot of guys who claim to know bighorns think this ram may go 195". What do you think??

Nice ride pics, but those ram pictures are INCREDIBLE. Specially since this is my year to hunt Idaho Bighorn,I finally drew the tag in the area my wife Jo drew and took a nice ram in 2006. Those 2 rams are amazing!!! I should be so lucky to run into either of those, WOW!
Thanks for posting AA.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures and good luck on your hunt. I think my chances of drawing a Ruby Mountain Bighorn tag are like a 1,000,000:1 since I didn't apply for a couple years and they took my hundreds of dollars of bonus points away. Real men don't read directions do they?:light::)
Here's a couple more of the Big Ram I thought turned out pretty decent.

I know your pain, my dad had a bunch of points stacked up, 7 or 8, so he could hunt unit 231 for deer. Forgot one year, because he was already locked in on two other tags so he kinda just forgot about nevada, and the next year missed the deadline. There went a great deer tag down the drain. You need to hunt the ruby's bro, i was surprised how good it was for the amount of points it took...

You've got to promise not to laugh at my camera. They were shot with a Kodak ZD710, which is a 7.1 megapixel pocket camera with a 10X optical zoom. I always slip it in my pocket when I go sledding. Prior to having any real good snow this year I saw these wintering bighorns in the foothills and followed them around for a couple afternoons. They got real comfortable with me the second day and allowed me to get in pretty tight.

Jay,
I climbed it when it was still smooth. I'm not sure who was climbing it when Chris and I were looking into Box from the other side of the lake. We were trying to figure out why they were waving. It may have been "Kid" and David, looked like two Ski-Doo's. Pretty soft in the narrows.

It was actually a great morning, Chris and I only rode for about a half hour. I was doing a little testing, I'm still struggling with the new sled a little bit in the spring conditions, but I'm slowly gaining ground. Chris still ran the pants off me all morning on the old bandaided yellow beater. The old sled likes springtime.
