Riding the Ears last week of January - Where to stay?

We rode the ears last year with Burandt and the conditions were incredible.

There are 3 of us planning on returning this year sometime around the last week of January/first week of Feb.

We'll probably stay in Kremmling since it's so close and has a Cat dealer in case we meet some of those spruce trees head on ;)

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay? Any other help would be appreciated! :beer;

There's really only two places.... allington is the new one, looks nice but never stayed there. Cliffside's not bad though, free wifi & breakfast.

Allington=80 a night, pool, hot tub and WiFi
Cliffside=70 a night, hot tub and WiFi
Bob's=depends on owners bank account but generally 50-60 a night, no pool, no hot tub, crappy TVs, drafty rooms with thin walls and a swapping place for meth. (Believe me, my Dad used to do the maintenance and I have helped from time to time)
Eastin=I honestly don't know but they do have WiFi now, I saw the sign outside.

$80 a night is reasonable with a pool and wifi. I'm not interested in any meth (LOL)

It looks like it's also 107/night for the big room, so that might do the trick for 3 of us.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get back down there!

Allington - pool, hot tub, and WiFi = 80 bucks
Cliffside - hot tub and WiFi = 70 bucks
Bob's - getting a rash that the doc can't cure or in the middle of a meth deal = Priceless!

The Cliffside is also offering a free entry to the Hot Sulfur Springs Hot Springs with booking. Now you can drive 20 minutes, soak for a while and smell like a fart for the rest of the weekend.:D:D

Look at Walden too. North Park Inn has a new wing and hot tub, and is run by a sledder. Also have a house/cabin for rent. Rabbit Ears is about the same distance as Kremmling but you have buff pass 20 minutes away, where many head to from RE anyway. Snowies, Sierra Madre, and Cameron Pass are close too.

Towers on top. There's a snotel there.

Buff pass isn't showing up for me in mapsource, where abouts is it?

Due north of RE. 15-20 minutes on the trail will get you there. It is adjacent to the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness area. Holds more snow than RE. IMO, it gets pretty busy when the snow is epic. Lotsa riders. That is when you hook up with a local or a guide to go to the "secret" locations, if you are an out of stater or don't know the area well.

Thanks PJ! I'm hoping you offer pick up service at the local bar too. I might have to put in a full shift like I did in Cooke last month ;)

Burandt had us so tired after riding out there in January that I had one drink in 3 days!

I can't wait to get out there and ride the pow again.

Any other suggestions? Will I have to book way ahead of time?

PJ, what's the status on your operation out there?

I'm getting it put together, I basically just need firm dates so I can arrange my schedule with daycare and what-not. I've been studying maps and I have a few more places that I'd like to install into my brain. Who needs GPS, eh?

I need to get my first-aid/cpr recertified and I need to attend a refresher avy course, but those won't be available until October at the snow show or the local college.

Plus, I am trying to put together a TXP.:D:D

X2 on North Park Inn. Real nice place, we have rented the house which was big enough for 6 of us. More than enough parking for the biggest of rigs. Dave (Chevy boy) is great, gave us some local info on new riding areas. Grizzly Creek trailhead (Buff Pass) is about 1/2 the distance to RE on CR24 (I think), although the road in can be rutted up and/or drifted across pretty bad at times.

Well theres also the other side of the pass, Steamboat Springs, lots of places to stay and eat there, Rabbit Ears Motel has fair prices and has some very large rooms if you need to stick 4 guys in a room and each have there own bed, no need to cudle that way.
