Riding around Glenwood Springs??

I have the week off and my wife is staying Glenwood for work. I can stay free and would like to do a little riding. I see it is forecast to snow the next few days in the area. Do I need to plan to drive to VP or is there something decent closer? Anybody have some time to ride maybe wed-thurs? I have a new Pro, most days I ride it pretty well.:face-icon-small-win

I haven't done it myself, but I have heard you can head right up out of town and hit some good riding in the flat tops. There is also a small ride area by the golf course that's west of the highway as you start to head to aspen....sunlight? Or something like that...

Sunlight is the access to Grand Mesa. Does anybody know what the conditions are like up there?

Looks like access from town brings you right to the flattops wilderness area on the other end. Doesn't look like much to ride...

There isn't anything real spectacular as far as snow conditions go

Transfer Trail access might be a bit tricky because of the low snow amounts, I rode that a few weeks ago and the access was fine but goes fast. Flat tops has enormus riding potential, the wilderness area is a good distance away. You can ride from Glenwood to the Dotsero side which is a lot of area.

There was less snow up at Sunlight. I haven't been riding for a few weeks but it should be ok. Again just low snow amounts.

There are days worth of riding near here, Transfer trail, Buford Road, Dotsero all take you up to the Flattops, Each of those areas could be a couple of days worth of riding each.

Then the East end of the SP/fourmile/sunlight area offers the same. And your only a bit over two hours to the west end of the SP on the Grand Mesa.

I don't have time to ride this week but maybe someone else will.

Transfer trail. Goes right up out of town behind the Land Rover dealership if memory serves me correctly. Its south facing so sometimes can be muddy. But dont let that scare ya. Once u get ontop it is awesome terrain for maaaaany miles in either direction.

This is kinda nostalgic.... used to live in G-wood.

Flat tops, Vail (in town North side of 70, Piney area), Vail pass is about hour and 30 minutes. Grand Mesa (poor snow this year from what I have heard).

Well the transfer road is a bust, that would be miles of mud by the looks of it. So either back to Dotsero to try and access the Flattops or up to Vail Pass.

From the looks of things around here, VP is going to be worth a little extra drive. The Mesa is back the way I came, rode there a couple of weeks ago, not so good, so far this season.

The way the storms have been the last few days heading towards Vail might not be a bad thing. Their just isn't much snow anywhere honestly.

Not even many of the hardcore locals are going out on the weekends anymore. CLose to town without much down side will going up past sunlight.

Turn right off the Main road before sunlight, this is four mile road. Take that a couple of miles to the parking area on the left just before the first switch back. Park and Ride, if it sucks your only :30 out of town.

Snow to the south the next day or so might make going up there and staying towards the south the best it's going to be.

Dotsero access is up Coffee Pot road. I don't like this because you either have to drive your truck through mud or your sled. Plus, it seems you ride for 25 miles to get to good riding. If I were you I would go out of New Castle. You drive all the way up to the parking area (good size) and riding is within the first 10 miles. This area is Triangle Park.
