Riding Areas On Chinook Pass?

We are staying at a cabin on Chinook Pass over new year. Looking for riding areas on the East side of the pass as near to the summit as possible. I have not snowmobiled in this area before. Any suggestions on riding areas and snow reports for the area are appreciated. The cabin is located by Lodge Pole Campground. Is it possible to ride directly from this area or do we need to trailer to another location?

Tuff question. Chinook Pass Hwy is closed from Crystal Mtn to almost the Little Naches River....Dunno where Lodge Pole Campground is?

Most riding areas and the groomed trails are listed here on the Wa. State Parks Web site. Look under "GreenWater/Yakima" and you can print out your trail maps...Have a great time.......

Thanks for the info LCE, I will look that up. The cabin is up pased Little Naches if you are coming from the Yakima side. I am going as well, but don't know the area. Little Naches is as far as I have been, and that only in the fall. We will have a group with some novice riders and it would be nice to find some meadows, maybe some easy slopes to get the newbs some practice.

Can anyone else help?

Thanks

I forgot to mention, we will be celebrating new years at Whisling Jacks, hope to see some of you there!

Just go north up the Little Naches from 410 till you hit snow, unload and go. You can go clear to Greenwater, plenty of meadows beside the road.

You can also head east up the "Ice Hill" and ride right into Whistlin' Jacks. Use the maps on the Parks website and you'll be all set......Hope we get more snow by then, not looking too good......Have fun....

Hello, i own a cabin two miles from cliffdell and Whistlin' Jacks. There are not very many if any areas to ride around the lodge pole campsite and the location of the cabin you are renting. The problem is that that whole area on both sides of the highway just a few hundred yards off the hiway is Wilderness areas, the Norse Peak Wilderness to the north and the William O Douglas Wilderness to the south. Motorcycles, mountainbikes and snowmobiles are prohibited within all wilderness areas. I suppose if you do find any fields around your cabin you can risk riding at but i heard the fine can be heavy if caught. Best areas to ride at this dismal time of year for snow would be the upper Little Naches up around FSR 1908 and around Lost and Mathew meadows or all the way up towards Pyramid Pass and Government Meadows. The only other option would to be to trailer your sleds down to the turn off of hwy 410 to Boulder cave and follow FSR 1706 up to the snowpark. From there you can ride all the way up to Little Bald Mountain and all sorts of meadows along the way. Good Luck, have fun and Happy New Year!

Like the others said your going to have to trailer down hill a bit. Devils Creek is just below Indian Flats, you can go from there to little bald. The Little Naches (Rd1900) is the best. Large sno park and like the guy said you can ride to green water from there. Go to government meadows there is a cabin to warm up in. Ravens Roost is another spot for a good view. Hill climbing at the top around gov. meadows and meadows to play in along the Little Naches River. We were there last week and they had started grooming also. My 6 year old grandson rode a 250 Bravo from the sno park to the cabin so it is easy to get to.

Forgot to mention that there is also the Milk Creek Basin areas off of hwy 410 just east of the Little Naches road turn off. Depending on snow coverage, you can ride up FSR 1708 until you come to Milk Pond staying left and following FSR 1708 up to the large washout in the road. Just past the washout about a mile and a half the road comes to a "Y" with 1708 going right and FSR 965 going left. Head left on 965, follow that and it will bring you to the top of base of Manastash ridge where you can find some nice hill climbing up to the top of Manastash Ridge. Nice riding up there with the ridgetop at above 5000 ft so you are bound to get a little deeper snow. I know the Milk Creek Basin very well as i have pulled four large elk out of there hunting in the past ten years.

beware that lil naches has very liilte snow. The weekend before Xmas the parking lot was like mashed potatoes 4" deep. There has not been much int he way fo new snow either. Maybe 3-4" in the past 3-4 days. Also, at New years there are tons of people camping in the lot. Get there early.
Also, Milk creek can be steep and icy. Not a place for novice riders.
(things people forget to tell you )
