ride or trailer from mountain view hotel

Staying at the mountain view hotel feb 15th to 18th and am wondering if the locals have a path they use to get to the riding areas or if they trailer up to the sand lake or green rock parking areas. Any help would be apreciated. Thanks

almost always, except for last year, you have to trailer up to Greenrock or the Sand lake road. Will be across the road at the Old Corral that weekend, Good Luck

Coming from osage iowa which is in the north central part of iowa 20 miles from mn border.been to the snowies twice in the last six years, twice to rabbit ears and twice to black hills. was going to do a saddle bag trip in ontario this year but one of the guys didn't have his passport so we opted for the snowies because nobody in the midwest has snow and there is such a variety of riding.

If there is enough snow in the ditch you can ride right from Centennial. Just up the hill then take the Barber Lake road and you will be right at Green Rock. So about 2 miles of road riding.

That'll work, problem is most of the time there is a stretch about a 1/2 mile long that the wind blows the snow off and you're skidding along on blacktop.

Is that barber lake road open in the winter so a guy can drive the truck up and check it out before we try and ride sleds on it? I see no snow and warm temps for the next seven days so i'm sure the conditions will change before the 15th.

Nope, it can get pretty deep in the sheltered areas. It's just the couple of open areas that the sun hits and the wind blows down that make it a beotch to use as a trail.

with all the recent snow lately, is the ride up to the parking area by sled from centeniel an option or still recommend trailering? also, can you leave your trailer overnight up in the parking area and just drive vehicle back and forth to centenial or is this a problem for snow removal? any and all suggestions are appreciated.

I'm sure you can, just a PITA. The wind hasn't been blowing so Barber Lake road might be an option. Hell, I could ride from the house, but I choose to pull my trailer up; just simpler. As far as leaving the trailer IIRC, there is a sign in the parking lot prohibiting overnight parking.
