Reverse switch not working

So went to fire up my sled today and the reverse just didn't work. acted like the button wasn't hooked up. So I turned the sled around by hand drove for a bit, then it would work, then it wouldn't. Got it back inside took the front end apart chasing the wire, checked where it was plugged in, looked good no corrosion... Weird... just a bad switch I guess? Gonna go in for warranty next friday probably. Sled doesn't even have 200 miles on it.

I had the same issue last year. Dielectric grease in every connection and worked flawlessly ever since

Is your sled dropping down enough RPM's? I forget what it has to be (maybe 2400?). But if it doesn't drop down enough, the switch won't engage. Often, it's the TPS on Polaris sleds that are the culprit. Check the RPM to see if that is the issue.

If your holding the brake it wont work either......... that also means a bad brake switch can have the same effect. Just something to check. Eric

I was at 1750-1900 rpms. Not holding the brake. Was actually just reading up on the TPS thread. My sled doesnt seem to have idle issues. I have e start tho and it does seems to take longer than it should imo to start it with the key. How does everyone go about having their dealers check the TPS? and I'm thinking it might just be the switch, I did have it outside all summer and we had a very rainy year, but it was covered. so idk.

Mine was doing the same thing....Read the TPS threads and mine also exhibited no other symptoms, my reverse button just seemed to be dead. Took it to the dealer he hooked it up to the digital wrench TPS as well as everything else in spec....Brought the sled home traced the wire pulled apart the connector no corrosion but as everyone else has suggested added dielectric grease...put it back together...and has worked perfect ever since.

There was nothing to really fix persey...In my situation the reverse issue was intermittent. I bought my sled in march of last year so I didn't get a lot of time on it however, I noticed intermittently that when the machine was cold and I would start it (let it warm up) and hit the reverse button nothing would happen. Drag it of the trailer drive it forward about 20 feet and I had reverse all day. Drive it up on the trailer go home, go to take it off the trailer sometimes it would go into reverse sometimes not. I told the dealer that some off the posts that I had been reading on different forums suggested that the "reverse issue" may be the result of the TPS being out of spec. He told me that he hadn't heard of any of the 16 sleds having a reverse issue and to bring it down. He hooked it up to the digital wrench and everything was in spec...(and while I was down there as it would happen it went into reverse just fine). He told me if it acts up this winter to drop it by. When I got home and went to take it off the trailer guess what...no reverse....Being a fan of dielectric grease and having greased most of the connectors as a precaution anyway I traced the reverse switch connector inspected it and added dielectric grease...in my opinion the connecter is cheap, white plastic and it really wasn't a tight connection. Meaning it doesn't "click or lock" together. However, after adding grease firing it up multiple times within the last month or so the switch has always worked. Bad connector? Luck? Idk, but for now the issue seems to be resolved hopefully for good.?

interesting. Well I'm planning on taking it to my preferred dealer but they're about an hour and a half away. The local one can't be bothered to pick up their phone or return my messages. I'm not a big fan of them anyways and would prefer to give the farther one my buisness. Gonna have them check it over too while its there, just a general inspection for hose wear, chafed wires etc.

So, my dealer checked it all out. Found some moisture in the switch applied some dielectric grease and said it worked fine. (others mentioned this fix on here) They also did a check over at my request to look for any abnormalities.
From what they said everything looks great, nothing needed touched, and now want to charge me $283.
I know it should have gotten an update since my computer was doing the half speed read thing.
My question is does that sound reasonable for a checkover or is that kinda absurd pricing for a checkover where no action was required...?

Speedo recalibrate should be no charge warranty, wasn't it a TSB? Moisture issues in connections were also a known issue on 16's.What about your warranty, when does it expire exactly? Pretty sure even a one year warranty is good till December 1st.If you have extended warranty it should only be a $50 deductible.Call or email Polaris directly and ask about warranty before you pay the dealer.

Even if you do owe money, what do they charge per hour $90 hr x3 plus tax=$283. Seems excessive to me for a once over.

have your dealer check your TPS some issue will pop up with reverse before idle.

Forgot to come back and update. sorry. After taking it in they said they just popped the connector apart and put dielectric grease in. been on plenty of rides since and had no issues with reverse.
