Reverse on older rmk 2002

I want to put reverse on my 2002 rmk 800. I have the team clutch, cdi and cdi harness that is 12 ' long that goes from cdi to stator. I have oil pump for reverse and I have button. I connected the cdi up and it starts but when I push the button, the motor does not stop and does not go into reverse. It just keeps running. Do I need the complete wire harness for reverse to work? I did not change the flywheel, because I heard in a 2002 that its not necessary because they already have one. Any help?

Actually you heard wrong, the 2002 has a different flywheel, 4 degrees different.

Recheck your wiring. If memory serves, its easy to get the wrong wires connected for the button. If you got the complete wire harness it would have a plug at the tank that you connect in to, but you don't need it... you just need to get the right wire jumpered when you press the button.

I bought a reverse kit from polaris for $900 which included a roller secondary complete with reverse helix, cdi, reverse button console, new rpm gauge that has rev light, complete wiring harness. No Flywheel or keys or reverse oil pump!! Wiring harns for the hood was not included but in the instructions there was a wire in one if the plugs that needed to be moved for the light in the new gauge to work. I put this kit in 2004 on a 2002 vertical edge 156 and just sold the sled Running last year and never had any ussues with the reverse what so ever. That sled sold with over 12000 miles. 10000 were with the reverse installed. Installed the kit without removing engine in about 5 hrs. Rebuilt the engine once because of a bad crank bearing.

SO DID YOU PUT ON A REV PUMP?? OR JUST LEAVE IT ALONE?
