rev vs m8

would like you get input on the rev xp 800 vs the m8... years 2005 to 2007... I know alittle about the m8 my brother has an 09 m8. i read about about how the rev is harder to ride but have never ridden one. looking for 150 inch or better track. 33% trail riding on groomed and non groomed trails, 33% boondocking and 33% hills... not the steep and scary **** just normal hills 20 to 200 feet and nothing to difficult... not like some of you guys. ride in washington state.

would like you know pros and cons of both sleds. want to spend 3 - 5K for a sled.

i am 6 foot 220lbs if that makes a difference. with not very much ridding experience on sleds but i used to race dirt bikes when i was a kid.....

thanks

You are actually talking about 3 different sleds. The Rev is 04.5 to 2007, XP is 08-2010 and then the M8. I have ridden the M8's and ride an 06 Rev. I like both but the Rev will outperform the M8 in stock form. There is always somebody who can outdo somebody else and both were fun to ride. I have a preference for the Rev but like the dependability of the M8. If you have ridden bikes, a few hours on the Rev will have you rippin it up. The M8 is easy right off the bat. You cannot go wrong with all three choices in my opinion. Find one that is in your budget and ride. Have fun. Also in Washington.

actually, the REV SUmmit platform debued in 03.5, not 04.5
and the XP (as stated ^^ , was in '08 to present)

I came from an 07 M8 153 to an 03.5 REV Summit X 800 144 & now an '06 REV Summit X 151 - night and day
FOR me, the REV fit me better, but some like the M8 better
the M chassy has been getting better every year since 07 for sure

I have also ridden the XP

for me, it goes REV, XP, M

but shes all personal preference my friend - what suits me, might not suit you
get seat time on all of em and see what you think - but you wont get an XP for the price range you want to spend either
so its gonna be a REV or older M series I think - either way you will have a blast!

I am really starting to believe the personal preference thing...what works for some doesn't work for all...I came off an M (wanna be M, crossfire 7 with a long track) and am now on a 07 XRS. My bro has an 09 M8 and have some seat time on that as well. I would say that for ease of turning over in the pow the M is easier. For now, I think I like the ergo's better on the Summit, but the M's for flickability are better. Grunt down low definately goes to the Summit...they are both great sleds in my opinion, but if I could have it all I would have an M-chassis, M-front suspension, 800R motor, and summit skid...but we can't all have what we want...

rev sled "07" 800r

if you want power go w Doo. if you arnt so good with stearing a sled get a kitty. one of the guys i ride w rides a 08 m8 when he jumped on my 07 800r he said" your doo is like a porche and mine is like a caddy" i would agree. cats handle easier, not better, easier. even the 2010 cat cant run from the 07 rev...

It's a toss up for me. I have an 07 Rev w/the 800r I finally have it where it handles like I want it to, and am comfortable with it, but there was alot more of a learning curve to get it to handle how I want it to, and the same can be said with the XP. I also have a ridden a few m8s and have an Mcat. Honestly whatever sled you get your going to get used to riding and enjoy. I'd go for which one your going to get the most bang for you buck with it (ie condition vs cost)

I have ridden both. The M8 with me on on it will out climb my REV and it handles better on the trail. My REV has a way higher fun factor though. My REV jumps and wheelies better and is way way more fun to ride overall. The M8 rides seems more like a tractor albeit a very capable tractor.

Hill climbing is not what my riding style is about. Big airs, downhill carves and dropping cornices to me is where it is at. The REV platform excels at this. Just look at the videos from 2004 - 2007. Everyone was on a REV.

Everyone who rides an M8 and then gets on my sled says they can't believe how much "snap" my REV has.

Ridden every year of M8 since they came out....just can't get on the bandwagon. Even tho it's a few years old now, I still wouldn't trade my 07 Rev for a new M-sled even if it didn't cost me anything. Like powderhound said....the fun factor on the Rev is just way up there. The M8 will tractor it's way to the same places, but it's just a completely different affair. I rode with a 2010 M8 yesterday....it is MUCH improved from other years, but it still doesn't have my old 07 covered....it's a good race mind you.

Let me put it this way....my girl can lay an M8 over in the pow, but not my sled. The M is much "tippier," this is good for some people and bad for others. I consider myself a master donut whipper, and I can't rip a donut on an M without winding up laying on the ground. Can't carve big turns downhill either. Jump on my Rev and I can change directions like a snowboard.

Also, I'm about your height and weight....all the stuff on those older M's is very low. As in seats and handlebars. The later Rev's don't need much (if any) mods for taller guys.
