Rev Gas Can - Leaving really bad marks on tunnel?

I put my gas can on my 07 a few weeks ago. I put grip tape on the tunnel to prevent rub marks on the aluminum. I have five days riding on the sled and pretty much shredded the grip tape and the gas can left grooves in the aluminum. I previously had an 04 REV, and it had a rubber mat on the tunnel. Checked with the dealer and its $50, little much. Just wondering what most people have done to prevent bad wear on the aluminum?

ttt, just put a VE tunnel on my Rev and the can has already wore through the powder coat. Need the same advice...

I glued down a black mouse pad on my 07, but its not beg enough, still leaves marks on the sides. Ya know if you took a stall mat and cut off a chunk an glued it down that might work, a little overkill and thick, but it might work.

You can get the that same mat somewhere from like lowes or ACE for much cheaper i bet. I found a huge roll in my shed. I cut it out and glued it on with some sort of heat and waterproof window seal contact adhesive. The sucker stuck on there good. The can doesnt slide and it looks good.

Good luck

What works pretty good is tool box liner with grid in it. I just put it on loose,
no glue and only put it down when I have the can on it. Its sticky so it doesn't move on the tunnel and the can doesn't move on it. Just bought a big sheet of it from Menards (Midwest version of Home Depot)for under $5. Would think Home Depot, Harbor Freight etc might have it also.

I tie my can down with one of these, a 1/8" ratchet rope tie down, http://www.mcfeelys.com/product/CNM-0112/Rope-Ratchet-Tie-Down
You may have seen the larger 1/4" or 3/8" versions in stores but the little 1/8" ones are amazing for tieing down gas cans , tarps etc.. I put two extra s-hooks on it and drill four tiny holes in upper corners of the tunnel where the can goes through and thread the rope through and over the can so its tied down on four corners. You could do four or five barrel rolls and the can will still be on the tunnel.
Nice thing is the rope ratchet and foam only weigh a few ounces and will even fit in a rev trunk with room to spare.

Good Luck

I glued these to the bottom of my gas jugs. Worked well all last year. I used a heat gun to warm up the grippers and the jug. Got 'em at the local hardware store. Comes in rounds, strips, and big squares you can custom cut. Good luck. EW

I polished the $h!# out of my tunnel and was worried about the same thing. I bought two of the M-series arctic cat tunnel mats and cut out one in the shape of the gas can and the other in the shape of the rear bag. They seem to be holding up nicely, and not too spendy.

Just use a piece of carpet, not the shaggy stuff, that is what I used on our 800 and it works great, you don't even have to glue it because it freezes in place and stays put. Cheap and very effective!
