Rev Chassis Guru's...Any problems w/this Nun

Son #2's 07 800 XRS took a center punch into a tree. Broke the front bumper, hood/hinge, and bent the right side of the nose cone plate.

I hear all these stories of bent Nun's and all the problems related. This is my first Rev repair, anyone see any issues in these pics. Thanks in advance. EW

Check the skis to see if one is set back further than the other, then see if the shocks are both centered in the a-arms. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like the clutch side is bent a little. Also check behind the muffler and primary clutch they should both be straight.

Y pipe bolts look loose! some times if you lay the sled on its side, you can look to see how straight the nun is by using a straight edge with the track.

And since you have it tore apart that far I would put all the extra 440 bracing in there. There is a service bulletin out there somewhere for them.

If it's just bent a bit I'd leave it alone and ride it. It's not like it's not gonna bend again the next time you hit something or catch a ski on ramp etc.

flip the sled over and check where lower a arms bolt to the chassis. you will see any bends there. weld the cracks hammer everything straight6 and ride it. if its real bad it is actually easy to repair and quite cheap. purchase a hammer rivetter from an aircraft repair shop for the best quality. its just an air chissel with the rivet end on it. and the 440 parts are deffinetly the ones to put back on. also the 440 engine mounts are way better to.

Thanks for the repsponses guys. So today i will

1. Eyeball & measure ski tip alignment
2. Check shocks for center in A-Arms
3. On the Y pipe I am installing stainless ARP bolts with Nordlock washers
4 Use a straight edge to compare line on nun with line on track (is this right?) or compare the gap between them?
5. Check into "440 Bracing" is there a particular part #, year/model 440 or will the dealer know what I'm talking about?

Anything else????

I also noticed a oil leak at the outside of the pto exhaust valve. Any known causes/issues/fixes on this or just clean and replace with a new OEM gasket?

Sorry if I sound a little green on this Rev thing, I am. For all the troubles I have heard of on this model, I have never had to do anything other than clutch maint. on it since new. Over 2000 miles on it now. Put the digital bore scope in the Y-pipe last night and the pistons looked better than the 400 mile ones I just replaced on my Dragon. Thanks again for all the help. EW

check out your carb boots. they will delaminate on you and burn down your engine. easy to fix if you catch it in time. just order all parts from 440 race chassis. the dealer will have part #'s

I have a nice example of a rev sled that I x-country raced.
You can check the pictures here.
Clicky for Results of x-country racing and bottoming out

Most common spots for Nun to break/crack.
Oblong bolt holes are from bottoming suspension out.
Check for cracks on pyramid fixtures too, just as the pictures show.

For a nun that is a little bit tweaked, just do a ski alignment. You'd be surprised at how you can go with a tweaked nun with re-aligned skis. Since summit owners don't usually ride in snow with skis particularly doing much work, you'll probably get by with a tweaked nun.

I recommend that if you find any cracks then take a 1/8 drill bit and try to drill a hole at either end of the crack. The hole will prevent propagating of a crack. Might have to use an angle drill. I even have cut drill bits down to less than an inch long to get into tight spots to prevent cracks spreading.

Thanks a lot Dynamo & Dirt. Pics were great, printed them out and heading for shop. We'll see what lurkes under there for me. Thanks again. EW

Thanks again everyone. The Nun checked out in all areas. Had to do a little pounding on the aluminum plate in the nose cone and the screen, but it was a snap.

Found some lightweight plastic at my local dealer that had been in the dungeon for a while. it worked out great. i like the blue better than the original XRS stuff. Don't know about the yellow bumper, any ideas, did they come in blue or black? Appreciate all the help/tips. EW

That new plastics gotta add about 10 HP..lol :D

You made quick work of that eric...it looks good!

Heather made quick work of it, I just made a quick repair....LOL. Hope she's not on SW.

I don't know about 10HP, but I lost 10LBs rubbing off all the glue from the "do not ride double with a girl" stickers. See ya later. EW

the yellow is just so everybody knows what brand she is; SOOO many copycats:rolleyes: I kind of like the contrast, but then again, my old man put one of those neon yeller mudflaps on his 01 too...
