Rev Chain case oil?

My dealer has been out of ski-doo chain case oil for weeks. The sled has used stock oil from the begining so should I keep it that way and wait, or just change it with some redline light weight shock proof oil?

Thanks, for the advice,

Cheyne

There has been many who have used ATF, to medium gear oil, I am sure if you can wait a bit you should be ok.

I myself use regular gear oil.

switching back and forth is ok.... not sure if the ATF is compatible with a gear oil...

I have used automotive synthetic gear oil for many years now with no problem at all. I also change it every year. Mind you I only do about 400 mile a year in the Rockies.

I think you can use just about any GL5 synthic gear oil,I change mine every season, and have not had any problems, I think it is that Royal Blue or Purple brand oil.

IMHO, regular maintainance is more of a factor in preventing chaincase breakdowns than which type or brand of oil you use. ATF has worked well for me. It gets changed twice a season. Very clean and not stinky like gear oils.

Make up your mind :)

ATF is about 5W and Gear oil is 80-90W.
My little brain made me think that the best would be somewhere in the middle.
I have always used Synthetic motor oil like 5-50W.
Please educate me on why this would not be good. Never had a failure yet.

x 2 Twice a season for me also. 80-90 with a little bit of Lucas oil conditioner, its heavy oil but I dont drop the sled off the deck and pin the throttle. I take it easy for a few miles ,let the belt and track, chain case warm up a bit. Twenty years or so, not had an issue....yet...Dino

The gears and chain is like automotve timing chain, so a synthetic autmotive oil should work the only issue with automotive oil could be the viscossity when it warms up and how it works with the type of seals used in a chaincase. We use motorcycle transmision oil as the gears and seals are the same type, we have found castrol mtx synthetic works well and it runs cleaner than ski-doo oil runs, its also a lot cheaper motul is another very good oil.

X 2, I just changed the chain in my kids ZX800 with about 8000 kms and it looked new with very little wear or side bend. I change it only as I thought it couldn,t possibly last for ever.

My Ski Doo mechanic friend recommends/uses Redline Shockproof - Light? The blue stuff.

I've got it in mine, shrug, seems to work....

Use mobile one or valvoline 75-90W synthetic

Mobile one or Valvoline synthetic 75-90W is the same stuff. Buy a quart and use 9oz each oil change.
I change mine every 200 miles. That way I can insopect my chain and slider. :face-icon-small-ton
