Resistor questions??

yes...........and there are different sizes so do your homework. but it sounds like you will need the 100watt and they are about $100 canadian.

Yes you will need a 100 watt resistor. I have one on my 06 M7 chassis. My wifes 05 M7 doesn't have one and I've ran it many times without the hood without incident, but my dealer tells me I've just been lucky. Some can run without the power draw and then the next one will eat the ecu. It's not worth the risk so I've installed them on both, $100.00 is cheap compared to a new ecu for at least a grand.

do you know anyone on snowest that might have one?

I'm sure someone on here does sell them. I bought mine from Reid Hedlund in southern BC, he's a distributor for Boondocker. This is there website www.boondocker.ca/contact/contact_us.html with all the contact info, I'm sure they could line you up with someone south of the border and if not they are great to deal with. I ordered mine and received in four days.

where in the harness do you put the resistor? i would like to take my headlights and gauges out too. same sled 06 m7

I mounted the resistor on the aluminum crossmember that's between the carbs and the front of the sled (I am running a BDX intake so lots of room). You need to mount the resistor on metal, it gets very hot. When I unplug the harness for the lights I plug my resistor right into the harness. I installed the hood side of the plug-in off an old harness that I got from my dealer onto my resistor wiring (works great). Just connect the wire from the resistor to the terminal that supplies power to your lights. Hope this makes sense.

I have a 2007 M 1000 do I need a resistor?
Thanks

I think you do. I'll call my buddy (he's a Cat dealer) and let you know. Won't be till tomorrow though cause he's in bed by now.

Cheers;
Shane

From what I understand 07 and newer do not need a resistor. I don't run headlights, tail lights, or hand warmers and have had zero problems.

Correct....'05-6 need a resistor or lights. One thing to watch.....I ran a resistor on my '06 with mesh hood setup. The resistor failed and I lost ECM. I'm sure this is rare, but if a guy can run about 100w of lighting then they can SEE that they have a drain on the system, you don't know the resistor failed until it's too late. :beer;

What Snowbound said Tele, just got off the phone with my buddy and that's exactly what he said.

Good one Winterbrew, thanks I never thought of that. I think I will have to look at some HID's for mine, I don't want to spend money on an ecu if I don't have to.
