Researchers say "spanking kids = lower IQ"

I read that article, and they reach some tortured conclusions.

It looks like all you need in the way of qualifications to be a researcher is a complete lack of common sense and accuray. Kind of a liberal's dream job.

Its not even research. It's data manipulation. They went into the experiment with a bias and had expected results so they just made the data fit their prereached conclusion.

It is just one of many tools to utilize when trying to instill what is not acceptable behavior.

There is no similarity between a spanking & a beating.
A spanking is an act of love and the child needs to understand that.
A beating is something a piece of chit does to feel better about themselves.

When i acted out or needed it i got the wooden paddle. It only took a couple times before i stopped. Now that im a dad if my kid acts out or needs it she will get spanked. Not extensively just enough to make her think about it.

I never bring this up because its such a hot topic BUTT (punn) I was actually spanked with a wood paddle by our school principal when I was in 5th grade. (the board of eduacation) It hurt like a mutha ****er...my parents were called and had a meeting to which the ends were....."he deserved it". I never felt so betrayed by my own parents at the time but as an adult I see why they did it. Now my dad is a grandpa and we talked about that incident recently. He told me he was not happy about me getting a beating by the principal but did not want to let me know that in fear of showing me I could undermine the authorities. I wish more parents were like my dad today!! Still not sure how I would feel about that if it happened to my kids but I would hope I would handle it the same. BTW, I did deserve it.

i remember when we had to go to parenting classes when we were getting custody of one of our grandkids, long story. the teacher was a college professional with plenty of degrees but no kids. she asked what was the purpose of spanking a child "to teach them if they do something wrong your gonna physically abuse them?" i stated "no, to teach them not to do it again" had almost every person come up to me after the class was over and thank me for my answer... go figure???

Because many children don't have the ability to process the whole reasoning thing yet.
You have to use a tool that works for the task at hand.

Reading this makes me remember, i was either in kindergarten or first grade and my teacher spanked me with a ping pong paddle. i can still remember it too, made a lasting impression. Man if a teacher did that now days they would be looking for a different line of work in a matter of seconds! I couldnt be a teacher in todays world. I have more respect for teachers because of that.
