Researchers say "spanking kids = lower IQ"

Didn't even read the article, but anybody who is so against spanking kids needs a good spanking them selves. I grew up being spanked, it works like a charm. Any one who doesn't spank their kids, will have horrible kids. All these kids screaming and throwing a tantrum in public, I never did that ONCE, discipline works.
 
It's not just spanking. I've seen it both ways good kids that were spanked and good kids that were not, an there's spanking an then there's abuse. The key is hard work and consistency by the parents (when you say no, you better mean it and stick to your guns). It's a real tough job raising good kids, you get out what you put in. 99% 0f kids aren't born bad(spoiled,unruly), they are made that way by their parents. If they won't mind when they are 6, just wait till they are 16!!!

I agree with everyone. There's just certain times when a kid needs a swat on the rear. I love to 1 - 2 - 3 thing in our house. Our kids know that they might as well stop at 2 because if 3 is said it's a guaranteed trip to time out at least and possibly more. Too many people these days literally suck at disciplining their children. I don't know how they let their kids run their life and still sleep at night especially when they pull crap in public.

If my kid acts up for some reason ANYWHERE, I literally stop what I'm doing and mitigate the problem. Sometimes I feel like I'm too hard on them, but it's always reassuring when people can come up to you and tout your kids as being some of the most polite children they have ever met.

Spanking kids

My grandmother told my wife and I, they are a clean sheet of paper when they are born. You determine how they turn out.

We seldom had to spank our kids when they were little because they knew that if they were warned once there would not be a second warning.

Some kids just need their parents spanked.

Honestly, I think I got spanked once, because after that I always knew to behave myself or there would be consequences. I think this "research" leaves too much information out, like how often was spanking applied to children and how minor were the offenses that received the spankings? Like almost anything too much of a good thing is a bad thing same goes for spanking. If you consistantly spank your child every time they get outta line of course its bad. But if you hold out spanking your children till they commit a "capital" offense then they learn to think about their actions and then next time they know what the consequence of stepping too far out of line is.

I think more than anything you gotta fear getting in trouble, kinda like your supposed to fear God. I never wanted my mom to be mad at me cuz goddang its one of the most unpleasant ordeals ever. One of the most effective ways of keeping me from getting in trouble was telling me that if I ever got caught drinking my authorities(or drugs or any reason I'd end up in jail) not to call home to be bailed out because they wouldn't come and next time I saw them there would be some hell raised. And besides not doing anything thats jail worthy anyway, I sure as hell never got drunk enough at parties I couldn't run when it got busted and I was always one of the first people out the door running when the cops came(you never wanna be the first, 2nd, or 3rd guy ha).
 
Depends on the kid too, I could take a beating no problem, but my mom could make me cry for a week by telling me how dissapointed she was in me, etc.

We don't always agree, but we are honest and straight forward with each other which is the beginning of resolving any issue with anyone. Then discuss it like adults and not like children.

That's awesome.

Same boat here...married 15 years in June, together for 18 in August. NEVER have been apart in that 18 years. NEVER ONCE. Never had a fight. Nothing that we couldn't figure out within 10 minutes. EVER!!!
 
I wonder what they would say about my mom punching me in the mouth or giving me a bloddy nose. I was 6'2 @ 13 she is 5'2 what was she supposed to do ?
 
spankins worked well for my brother and i. dad only had to use the belt once:shocked:, never pushed it after that. good learning experience

almost forgot my moms favorite line, "i brought you into this world, i can sure as hell take you out of it" lmao thanks mom
