I replaced the one on my 8 today. I pulled the rope all the way out and then just stuck a small allen wrench thru the holes in the recoil and thru the housing to prevent it from rewinding. Put the new rope in in no time. My 600 didn't have holes thru the case, so I just wedged a couple screwdrivers between the case and recoil.
