replacing a water pump gear

hey i got a 1999 rmk 700 and the crank snapped. i got a new one for 700 bucks with all the gaskets and now most of the engine is complete. however i noticed the water pump belt was really loose and the gear looks wore out on the water pump so i ordered ne .. trouble is how you get these suckers off? i took the 1/2 nut off now does the pump propelor thread or slide off. i dont wanna bust it.

If you haven't done one or don't have at least a small arbor press available it might be well worth it to take the pump and housing to a dealer and just pay them to do it for you.

I can do one in about 30 minutes start to finish, dealer should be at least that fast.
