repair nytro subframe?

I have a bent sub frame with the lower right a arm 1 ¼” farther back then the left side. I’m assuming when I bend the lower right a-arm forward into position I’ll be moving the left backwards at the same time. What is the stock angle the spindle sits at? Can someone give me a measurement from the back edge of the extruded aluminum running board to the middle outside edge of the lower a-arm with the sled sitting on the suspension. Thanks for your help.

If its driving you nuts you can put a strap around the spindle (on the bent side) and hook the other end of the strap to your truck hitch. Then back up easily to pull it back out.

Mine was back about 3 inches and now u cant tell. All straight again:D

The shock spring is touching the upper a arm, How do you guys get away with riding your sled with bent subframes? I don't think mine is all that bent compared to others, if it was bent any more my suspension would be locked up. anyone have info on the correct spindle angle and distance?

heres what i just did w/ mine...

anchor [strap] the top of the a-arm to another vehicle or ... in my case a telephone pole.
and then attach another, 2nd strap to the lower a-arm and to your 4wd/awd vehicle.

i used the front tow hooks on my truck, worked great cuz i could easily watch the sled.

give it a few good jerks...and it should at least get you some clearance for your shock(s).

I had the same issue, shocks were very close to binding against the upper a-arm.

My spindles were way off too, this fixed that issue.
But the issue w/ the one ski further back/forward from the other still exists...which I'm sure is in the subframe itself...

My spindles are 4+ inches off.. >< But I'm hoping I can still ride/boondock it for a trip next week.

Waiting on a 09 subframe that I ordered..

Hopefully Yamaha fixes this issue. I'm sure they know about it.

i think this would be really easy to do..

more reinforcment, stronger materials..

i don't care, add another 10 lbs if its going to keep this part straight and bend the a-arms instead...
a-arms are cheap and easy to replace...

why can't the manuf figure that out? oh yeah cuz their out to make a pile of $ after the sale...

Just go till both sides look similar. You'll never get it back to where it should be.

If you don't have a telephone pole, use a Peterbuilt :D

Seem pretty amazing that you need a 4x4 truck to get back into position but the littlest of bumps trashes the subframe. once I get it back to where it's suppose to be I'm going to add some more material.

ok guys.. mine is bent and i am about to attemt this fix. my question is in the pictures one is pullin back on the top arm and the other is pulling forward on the top arm.... can someone please tell me which one of these pulls is correct? peterbuilt pull ... or telephone pull? my shock is touching my right upper control arm on the rearward side. thanks.

i think it somewhat depends on how or which way yours is bent.

looks like moto is anchoring through the stock spindle.
and then 'pulling out' the top.

on both sides of mine, i anchored the top, and "pulled out" the bottom.

either way i think the weakest link is going to give, weather its the top or bottom or a bolt, or an a-arm... =\

ok, in your situation. you want to anchor the top from the rear, and pull the lower from the front.
at least in my case, it looks like the lower arm/subframe is whats actually moving/bending.

When mine was bent I took it all apart and made a jig to measure the offset. As it turned out for me the upper A-arms had not moved at all but 1 lower went one way and the other went the other way. All the twist was in the lower half of the front clip. For mine anyways by hooking up the trucks I'd have been be able to get the shock centered and the skiis lined up but the spindle caster would be way off. I ended up getting a new 09 subframe as I couldn't see how to get it truly straight without a ton of jig building, and I have a backgraound in autobody from years ago LOL. Check the relative position on the uppers to each other then measure the lowers and I'll bet you find the same thing, but maybe not, worth a measure though.

yep, this is exactly how i see it, and think it works.
one side goes back, and innately the other side goes forward due to subframe design and twisting etc..

i was thinking it'd be very tough to straighten the subframe as well.. even with it removed, finding a way to anchor it at the proper points and 'pull' at the opposite point..it may be doable with straps and a truck, but there wont be much precision to it. :P

Alright Fella's,

If you have a "good" dealer, have them call their Yammi RTA (Regional Technical Advisor) about your sled. Yammi is warrantying some of these subframes.

There are only 3 RTA's in the USA, and from my understanding, Larry is the best to visit with for this particular problem.

Corporate Yammi is aware of the issues, and if your dealer verifies that there is no "other damage" that signifies abuse or otherwise, they should take care of it for you.

I spent a weekend with the Yammi guys that do pre-production product testing a few weeks ago. The one fella told me they changed so many of them out during testing, he thought he could change them in his sleep.

This takes a bit of footwork by your dealer, but it is a possibility. Rotax, you may be screwed, due to the aftermarket parts, but it is worth a try!

Please, EVERYONE that has problems needs to do this! You MUST VERIFY YOUR DEALER HAS MADE THE CALL!! I worked on this for months, only to find that my ORIGINAL dealer (that I will never do business with again) had never called and my sled was not even in Yammi's system for the complaint!
