Removing and Cleanting Exhaust Valves

OK Team - let all the nasty comments fly. I can take it.

I've searched time again for this little tid bit of info and can't find it. Sorry, and I'm the defacto IT guy in our office, which means I should be able to figure out how to word a search so that it works.

Anyway - I would like to pull and clean my exhaust valves on my 800r engine in a 08' XP and can't figure out how to pull them. I've taken the plastic covers off - easy enough but now that the valves and rubber diaphram is visable the don't just pull out. So, there is a little nut at the very top but wrenching on that only appears to rotate the diaphram and doesn't loosen anything.

Do I need to stabilize (prevent from rotating) the diaphram and then loosen the nut? Have I just not loosened the nut enough? Do I need to pry the whole assembly out?

Please help - I've got 800 miles on the machine and haven't checked them or cleaned them and want to do that before the weekend.

Thanks again.

Remove the 2 allen bolts that go into the head. Make sure to mark each one (left-right). The valves are cut at an angle to adhear to the cylinder wall. You might want to buy a set of gaskets before you start the projects. Here is a picture for reference...

Thanks - that's all I needed. I should have thought to look for that graphic.

I scrape them with a razor blade and then wire wheel them. I just cleaned mine, 3000-3500 miles and they looked great. Gotta love HP Valvoline oil. :face-icon-small-coo

Dont for get to cup the bawls!
