This has probably been on here before but here goes. What is a good remote start kit to buy?? What should I be looking for for options. This would go on my mothers car for her B-day and if it were good I'd put one on my Stroker. This all new to me so any GOOD advise would be appreciated.

I had one on my last truck, It was great!! I'm not sure what kind it was but it used the OEM key fob. You just held the lock button down for a few seconds. I would recommend one that uses the OEM fob so she doesn't have to have more than one.

i've had them on most of my trucks. i have a 06 duramax now and have a viper remote starter. you can get it with an alarm system all on the same remote if you want. be sure to get a page back style, that way it lets you know when the car starts. also, most have the door lock function on them, as well as being able to do a whole bunch of other options. you can also get the ones that only start the vehicle, with no feedback and no options. personally i wouldn't go for that one, but you also don't "need" the absolute top of the line either

Had the viper on my old truck. Worked awesome! Got a standard transmission on the new ride so I will have to do without that convinience now....BUMMER!!

I have an astro that is awesome, the range is incredible. Manual trans and it's a diesel!

astrostart in mine-2400ft.range 2-way unit, excellent. another good one is clifford,1 mi. range in perfect conditions. one of our local shops has done extensive testing on a ton of starters over the yrs. and have found these to be among the best for our severe winters, they report that units can lose up to 50-60% efficiency @-40 dg.

Had the 1/2 mile range one on my duramax, set up for glow plug delay. It had paging feature to let me know the truck was running. Locked all doors, and an adjustable running time. Also you could wire in extra features such as heated seats (yes it owned all). i paid around $350 for alarm and everything... worth looking into

manual cars can have them, but you must leave it in neutral for it to work...

I would only recommend Astro Flex brand which is also called Astro Start. Google it and it will come up as one of the first ones on there.

I have it for my PSD and will not be without one ever again. It's great in the winter, it's great in the summer. It offers great security as any touching of the brake or gas pedal shuts it down when the system has been activated. Once you are driving, you come to a store, hit the start button and pull the keys out, your vehicle will stay running and have all the security you need, you can lock the doors because you have the key fob and keys with you. I use that feature all the time.

You need to have these installed by a factory store. Warranty reasons. They can be used on manual tranny's as well with a extra module.

I have about 2000' range on mine and it will communicate both ways. Meaning it will tell me what the vehicle is doing or it's status when I can't even see it. (running, not running, locked, unlocked etc.) Also with mine being a diesel there is a program in it that allows 15 seconds for the glow plugs to warm and then fires the engine. It has settings to come on every 2 hours, or 4 or what ever, it also will come on if the temp of the engine gets below predetermined values. Same thing with how long it runs before shutting off. I have mine on for 18 minutes or 30, I can't remember.

The ones you get at Best Buy and Radio Shack are a joke. In the auto starter world you get what you pay for.

Mine was $400 installed and worth every penny.

Well RJ, you're wrong again. I bought my VIPER at BEST BUY and the fuggin thing works wonders (not junk, IMO). Mine, too, has a 15 second delay. And mine can be set for 12, 24 or 48 minutes, mines at 24. And you know what? I got a fuggin MILE range. I didn't pay the extra $100 for the "2-way". If I'm not smart enough to start the fugger w/o it telling me it's started, maybe I shouldn't have one. The parking lights come on if I want to look out the window and see.

$340 Installed for my "junk" purchased and installed at "Best Buy".

Compustar

I recently install a compustar on my megacab 6.7 diesel. Its awesome. Two way remote tells me if it started with a vibrate or chime or displays exhaust on the lcd depending how i set the remote. A count down shows on the remote to show how much longer it will run for. Timer mode to start at different intervals during the day or an alarm setting to start a specific time. Also has a sensor in the cab to tell you the temperature back on the lcd of the remote. Other thing is a turbo mode. Hit the button on the remote, than the parking break, pull out the key, runs for 5 mins and shuts down, good for when hauling heavy loads. It can start the electric seats depending on your truck, doesn't work on 2008 dodges. I'm sure there is more just haven't read the directions yet.

You're such a douche bag most of the time, I didn't say you wouldn't have all those features I simply stated generally the ones from best buy that most people buy are the cheapo's, look at the majority of ones they have, they have more on the cheap end then the high end. I also like having a auto professional install my stuff, not some 15 year old on the work program from high school. That's all, some don't mind, I personally do.

I'm glad you got a mile range, in flat areas with no obsturctions that may be possible, I'm always inside a building or structure when I start mine and I'm not walking a mile to test it out. As for knowing what it does, I work in a building that doesn't allow me access to windows where my truck is. It's a nice feature that means more to some the others.

I'm glad you have all those features, is the company that made it still in business and will Best Buy stand behind it if something happens? Generally they don't unless you bought one of their "plans". Do they take it out of your current vehicle and install it in your new one for $50.00 no matter how long you have had the unit? I doubt it. In a few weeks it will be on vehicle #3 for me. Not a bad investment IMO, I'd be very surprised if Best Buy matches that.

I appreciate ALL of your responses, I didn't mean to start aa argument over this stuff. I just would like to know what is the best bang for the buck. I am one who is not a big fan of low grade junk and being overpriced. Just the facts and your experience with the brands you guys have owned or would recommend. Thanks :beer;
