Remington 597 vs Ruger 10/22

Thanks for the advice guys. Picked up the Ruger on Friday and already have ~300 rounds through it.

Very nice gun and it's pretty damn accurate with the scope once dialed in.

Your going to love it, down the road look at a bull barrel from butler creek for it. Made mine a completly different gun.

Nice choice, you are going to love it. Have the same gun in SS, but mines got the SS Butler Creek folding stock, red dot scope, and bolt buffer.

Couple words of advice.... get a bolt buffer, makes shooting even smoother. Around $5 and they take 2 minutes to install.

If you do get high capacity mags, I have had alot of luck with Butler Creek STEEL LIPS mags. The HOT LIPS mags have plastic feed ramps and are not as reliable.

And if you dont know about it already, http://www.rimfirecentral.com/ , snowest of 10-22 sites.

The gun I got is SS. What's a bolt buffer? I'd like something to bring the pull on the trigger down.

My gun shop was out of the larger capacity steel lip mags. Good stocking stuff idea though :)

Volquartzen and Power Custom are two companies that I could recommend for parts. Volquartzen is on the high end, but their stuff is very high quality. I've only bought a coule things from Power Custom, but I was very impressed with their quality. Check out Midway USA for most of the gun parts you will ever need. Congratulations on the gun, you'll have a lot of fun with it.

LOVE my 10/22. first gun i ever could call my own. have had the most fun with that then any other. solid built, hardly ever any jams, even when not properly taken care of.....:O really like the clips for them and almost endless possibilities as far as upgrades and mods.....cant say bout the remington....?

Yup can't go wrong with the 10/22....mine sits in my pickup...it is beat to hell and shoots like a champ. It does have an occassional jam because I haven't cleaned it in ages (haha)...I just spray WD-40 in the chamber and it is as good as new! haha. My son shots the crap out of it. I work with a guy in the ATF and he destroys ammo and guns sometimes....he gave me a bunch of ammo he was gonna destroy. I got thousands of rounds of .22.....my son has shot half of that through the 10/22 and it still shoots like the first round.
