Remembering the good old days... after 8 years of Bush!

I remember having some heated debates years ago on this site about George Bush... No one could explain to me why he was going to be such a great President returning for a second term.... I am wondering if anyone can explain to my why he was a good President now?????

Now looking back at the last 8 years that Bush led the country... what do you think of him now? Was it still a good choice to elect him in for 2 terms?

:beer; < here is hoping that the US economy turns around soon... it is such a downer on the rest of the world! :(

All I know is he didn't increase my taxes and offer me nothing in return....in fact he lowered them. 6 years of a strong economy, even with 9/11 and 2 wars is pretty good IMO.
Would he have offered up our tax $$ and borrowed against our grandchildrens future to reward the unethical lenders and greedy CEO's if he was still in office??

Aside from fighting a war that the dems tried desperately to lose, stopping all attacks in this country and being the skape goat for every dem proposal coming down the pike.
Not much.
I didn't agree with a lot of what he did. I just thought the alternative was even worse.

And don't even try to blame this whole economic mess on Bush.
That would be like saying Ice Cream is at falt for Rosy O'donnel being fat.

They have to Ollie. They have nothing else. They thought they had the war lost to blame on him, then the surge. He didnt stick any cigars up, well, you know, so what else do they have?
Nobody wants to recognize the DOW was at its highest point in history during his term. Or that the nation was at it's highest point two years ago! Then the damn dems took over congress. Look at what we got now!

Seams to me I remember the stock market being at a all time high a few years ago. What happened then

Dems got control of the congress:(

So do you all really thing that if Bush were in office today, the economy would be fine?????

He11 no, bush is fortunate to get out when he did. Timing is just what it is, it is now about how the newely elected handle the situation. Personally I am not impressed , but then again I didn't vote for him either.

but you have to remember, the dems have controled the budget since 2006. When they took power, the dow was at record highs. Once they got in office it was all down hill.

Look historically, the free markets DON"T LIKE DEMS.
The Dow always goes down with the tax and spend anti-buisness crowd takes control. The dow is down over 7,000 points since Palosi and Reid took the reins and set the budget.

Would it be fine, maybe, maybe not. Different yes.
Listen, as soon as everyone knew that Obama was taking office, most people with money started pulling it. Business owners started cutting back, investors started putting money in gold and silver.
Now the question is, why? I know that answer.....do you?

Why are some of you Canadians so infatuated with our country and Presidents? I don't have the slighest idea who is in charge of Canada. All I know is that there is Quebec (who would like to be independent) and the rest of Canada.

cause we are your LARGEST trading partner, and what happens to you, really does effect us up here too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A view outside one's backyard is an asset.
Btw Stephen Harper is Prime Minister of Canada.
There, now you have a more worldy, expanded view.

This is the problem with the world today. It seems like nobody cares to follow current events or world issues today as "it doesn't pertain to them". The significance of the United States' economy is directly proportionate to the status of the world's economy. Everyone should take this a little more seriously.

Due to our newly socialist government this is no longer a "government by the people and for the people." This is a socialist government formed unknowingly by ignoramus' that take no interest in where their own country is headed, politically and globally, and therefore vote in the inexperience bottom-feeders that now have more control over your life than you realize.

You won't feel all of the effects until later. It usually takes a while for all these new bills to take effect. Hell you probably don't even have the slightest clue of what "your" elected officials are doing up there on Capitol Hill.

And to you Canadians that are showing some interest in the welfare of our United States, there's a few of us down here that can appreciate that. No need to stereotype all of us ;)

Bush made 2.5 huge mistakes. One, not completely securing the border with Mexico. Two, artificially keeping interest rates too low starting in 04'-05'. The half mistake was Iraq, while I understand the concept of liberating 36M people and hopefully creating a democratic stronghold in on of the most strategic locations on Earth, Sadam was a damn good zookeeper.

I sure wish there was a crystal ball and turn back the time to 911 and see how things would have turned out had we tucked tail and waited for another, and another..... I, for one, think that we have a much safer US (had) when he was in charge. He had the mentality of fighting the fight before it got here and I'm not quite ready for terrorism in our streets quite yet but if we decide to protect our borders from home then that might just happen. Iraq is a touchy subject with a lot of people, understandably, and to announce a pull out date is like giving them (terrorists groups) a check in date.

We saw good tax reform (now being undone).
We saw land kept open that was previously on the chopping block (now being closed at record levels).

Plenty of things done in those 8 years that some might not agree with and plenty that some did, you'll never please everybody but I'm glad for the 8 years we had of him, just too bad most of that is being reversed at the stroke of a pen just because it had the name "Bush" on it. All I hear is "previous administration" this and that, well, it's a new year and a new admin, shut up and start making it better!!!! I wish you luck!!.

At least we got to see History be made, that's all it was about anyway. (the '08 election that is)

And I have a request of the media, for every one of the jobs you report as being "lost", how about you tell us how many of them are going out of the country. This admin is going to tax businesses right out of this country, they have no incentive to make a profit anymore, the more you succeed the more you pay. Capitalism is what made this country so great and why so many people risked their life to come here, and now even the Mexicans are leaving (stealing our cars to leave, but they are leaving).

We'll be talking about the "good 'ol days", when we could load up our snowmobiles/atv's/jet ski's and head out for a weekend of fun, while we sit in our houses and watch reality shows and collect unemployment. And our kids are going to be faced with a HUGE tax burden, all for the sake of creating another chapter of history by electing the first black man, he sure as H wasn't the most qualified.

:beer;Time.

I must say that you "ignorant red necks" have really stepped up the knowledge base over the last 4 years (and I say that with true sincerity!). 4 years ago, no one had any reasons for supporting Bush all they knew is some doom and gloom propaganda spread by the media against Bush's challengers..

Nice post JROD! Nice to hear well thought out responses in politics!

Snowfox- it is sad to hear that your world doesn't stretch beyond your 50 miles radius... there is A LOT going on in the world, join the rest of us and learn something about the rest of the world!

PS. Sounds like Pres Obama is trying to make the states more like the Socialist Canada! Welcome aboard! The country where 2 provinces fund the existence of the rest of the country... the rich keep food on the table for the poor! Enjoy!

Typical liberal claptrap, divide and conquor. When you cheeseheads start supporting the war on terror and quit waiting for the US to bail out the rest of the world maybe I will listen to your tirades. Swampy:mad::eek:

true americans will not sit back and get ran over by socialism. the threshold is being reached, quickly....our history shows that fighting for your beliefs is critical to happy existance. canada is a great place, and I am happy to have you as neighbors, but I will be damned if I want your form of government....if I did, I would have made the 50 mile drive across the border:beer;

I ask a simple question, now I am being accused for not knowing more than my 50 mile radius? I am very knowledgable on world events, just not so much on Canada. Does that tell you something? Maybe Canada isn't very important when it comes to us Americans.

Buck50 thanks for answering my question.

Great post! Most people do not realize how big a deal it was that interest did not increase with housing. Interest should have been near 10% during the peak of housing. It would have kept inflation in check, people in check from buying to big or expensive of a house, and helped with the deficit!
This coming from a contractor......still in business though.
