reeds??

what are the best reeds to run in my 06 900. thinking of changing them this season and wanted to know if v-force 3 are good , they seem to have the same design as stock. any input would be great.

Stock is the best, aftermarket reeds are too brittle. Without lubrication from fuel going across the blades in a carbereuter setup, they break prematurely.

There is many discussions on this and the results point to less than 1000 mile life out of aftermarket reeds, some even as low as less than 500 consistently.

I have a set of Vforce reeds in my garage I got for 50$, still don't really want to use them.

Just searching and found this thread. Was checking out the online parts and they only have listed the reed assembly and was wondering if anyone has just purchased only the reeds without the cage. Think its about time to replace the reeds and don't want to spend for the full assembly while all I need are the reed pedals. If so what is the part# for just the reeds?

EDIT for an '06 900 engine.

I dont think they make much of a power increase but I have 3000 miles on them in my 06 900 dragon, my old boss has a 06 fusion with over 7000 miles on them and i also have a 600 ho with 7500 and none of them have had any issues with them failing prematurely. They are a pretty big hassle to install thou in your 900 .

reeds.

I installed a set of v force this season, and I noticed a huge performance difference. Not in power, but in throttle response. Real snappy. Nice upgrade for the price. Bit of a hassle installing them, but let's face it, what isn't a hassle on these pigs!

Good to hear! I wouldn't have thought you would gain response out of an EFI 2-smoker with reeds.
A Rad Valve made a huge increase in response and low rpm torque on my CR250... drastic jetting changes were needed though!

How to install intake boots

So just searching through the various threads on V Force 3 reeds. I know some are for and some are against, but I've been working on a complete rebuild and these were what I ordered from the local aftermarket parts guys. Anyway, how do they install with the intake boots? I had to shave a ton of rubber off the back to get them to seat properly. Does this make sense or am I missing something?
