What are the symptoms of reed failure?

im taking a guess here, but once you got boost i dont think reeds are all that important, but i think its the idle, if your reeds failed or broke off, i think that you will get a crappy idle, or wont idle at all??

it will sputter or not pull threw verry good in the bottom end to mid range. the worse the reeds are the worse it will be.

unfortunatly a exhaust leak, boost reference line, vacuume line, or blown bellows all have about the same effect.

one machine with bad reeds felt like a loose plug, or miss fire down low,and had problems ideling

the other machine with bad reeds would not start, blew the reed to peices on backfire, i heard others say that blown reeds will usally get you back to a truck

Ok sounds good will check it all out tomorrow was able to ride it out but could go over 1/4 throttle with out it bogging and wouldn't pull through it.

cool. easy fix.
I put a new one on my sled every year when I replace pistons at the begining of the year.

Mine ran really rich wouldn't idle and just like yours did not want to run over 1/3 throttle. Split the stock center upper reed pedals down the center and blew one upper pedal completely out. Still made it to the truck but ran like poop. Installed boysens for the weekend but really want better reeds soon! Not sure what reeds to run? Ran ok today, but the boysens don't close quite right even when flipped.

Ski-Doo and Boondocker have developed reeds that will last...not sure on availablity from Boondocker, they might only be offered with their setup.
