Redmond vs Moses Lake

I don't know you or even live out there... but let me tell you that Redmond is light years better for your list.

Just east of the three sisters, (which still have a little snow on them) surprisingly warm compared to the upper Midwest, climbing, river sports...awesome forest nearby...

I'll leave it at that and let the experts from the areas take it from here.

I think he means Redmond, WA (Belleve) - Not Redmond, Oregon

I would definitely entertain that depending on how terrible the morning commute would be. I'd say I'm willing to have at most 25-35 minute drive to work if it meant I could live in a better area.

25-35 minute drive can get you five miles further out. (true story)....Your housing costs will be double what you'd pay in Moses Lk.

I hate traffic. Hate it. and I am pretty politically conservative on most things.

This says it all.... If you wanted the complete opposite go with Redmond. Redmond(and most of the surrounding areas) is full of hippies, tree huggers, homo lovers and all around d-bags that think their sh*t doesn't stink. And most houses outside Moses Lake have either a shop/barn for your toys with them for around 150k less than west side. If I could make the same money on the east side that I make on the west I'd move in a heart beat... Wouldn't even think twice!! Hope this helps

I agree with this 100%. I have been, for about 2 years, trying to figure out how to do this. Cle Elum, Elunsberg, or outlying areas to there.

What might life be like for a guy if he lived out towards North Bend where I-90 heads into the mountains? It seems like a good place to live close to good riding but also out a ways from the constant motion of the city. What's traffic like on I-90 through the mountains?

I grew up near Minneapolis and the bus system is big there. You can get into downtown a lot faster as the buses are able to run on the shoulder and in carpool lanes.. is this a viable option for a daily commute around Seattle?

I like Northbend for its location. There is some expense to the area. There is some traffic headed West to the city at the usual times. Headed East over the pass is usually fine. When storms are hitting, I find it best to get up there before the crowds. Beat the plows and it's even better.

I would say Moses lake if it was me and sounds like a better fit for you. Good fishing lakes around with all types of fish. If you mule deer hunting. Ride your rzr or arc in the dessert. Closer to your friend. Not the crappy traffic. I find people are more rude on that side of the state. More bang for your buck as far as housing so more money on your pocket for playing. There is a college out there. So maybe cute college girls for you. If your in Redmond and want to sled on the east side its a way longer drive where in Moses lake your more central to wherever you feel like going.

North Bend is very nice for sure. But man, do they get the rain being at the base of the cascade range.

I commute the pass everyday. 52 weeks a year. Just as some have said, the pay of the west side, with the lifestyle of the east side.

Avalanche control is usually scheduled before commuting times. So really, it's just the spin outs from the folks not use to driving in snowy conditions that's irritating.

Moses lake is the arm pit of the state. Dry hot dusty and a ton of meth heads.
I work in Kirkland live in Bothell. Under twenty commute every day an hour to the mountains on the weekends.
Just my two cents...

Dude, you are coming from Houghton to Redmond WA? Your story sounds the same as mine....

Quite a few people from Tech out here...

Oh and good luck getting a house for under 350k that is within your commuting distance..

I would say if you could, spend 3 or 4 days in each place. Get some good maps and do some driving. The Redmond area is a rats nest with traffic. People deal with it, and you will find that the traffic is still heavy in the rural areas and when the weather gets bad it is slower. Now the east side is hot, dry, cold in the winter but you are use to that. The drive times are long getting from Moses Lake but you might find some thing closer to the mountains and commute to work a little further. best bet would be to spend time in both places like I said, get a feel for it. Redmond is beyond left, not all, for the sake of getting bashed by one conservative. King county has and will have the highest taxes in the state and it will get worse in the near future all to support the Seattle area.. So jump on a plane and come check it out..

Just finished up my second interview. I feel they both went well and hopefully they will fly me out for an in person interview.

All things considered, I'm definitely leaning towards Moses Lake. It's larger than Houghton/Hancock combined, housing is WAY cheaper than Redmond (just as cheap as Houghton nowadays), little traffic, ... the list goes on.

With the amount that I would be offered in Redmond, I'd be scraping by, and not be able to invest any extra income. I'm not playing the "work for the man my whole life and retire when I'm 65" program.

be careful that company ain't what it used to be !!!!

I would recommend Redmond for work as you can get a place north of there for a reasonable price. You'd enjoy the cleanliness of Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, Bothell, Woodinville, Lynnwood and be only 1-1.5 hrs from Mt Baker and only 3.5 hrs from awesome sledding up in the Whistler, BC area. From Renton up to Everett, there is a lot of great things to do, it's a diverse mix of age groups, I would say fairly conservative if you stay on the east side of Lake Washington and you could probably have a good time checking out the night life in Kirkland or Bellevue.

I've lived here all my life and like the balance I have working in Bellevue and living in Lynnwood. The commute sucks balls but sometimes you can't have everything.

Terry

***I do enjoy visiting the east side of the mountains but I'm not a huge fan of the heat, dryness, dust and socio-economic conditions for extended periods. Sorry if that sounds ostentatious but I've grown quite fond of the milder side of the state

I moved from Houghton to the Seattle area 29 years ago.

If I had it to do over, and had a choice between Moses Lake and Seattle metropolitan area - I'd choose Moses Lake.

There are several reasons people go to school in Houghton. One of those reasons is that it is a small town.
