Red MNT

Yes...

Needs more snow. The road network is limited up there and off trail is sketchy until there is 48-60 inches of base. Red has a good start but I haven't been back up since the first good storm. Looks like more snow coming in this weekend.

Is that area open to riding?? For some reason I was thinking it wasn't... If it is, I'm going to have to head up and check out Black Bear pass this winter!!

:)

I've only ridden up there one time and it was 3-4 years ago, but from what I can recall you had to stay on the east side of the highway. Black Bear is on the west side. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was what I recall.

There is a substantial closed area right there. The "no snowmobile" signs dot the actual Jeep road as you go up. The legal boundary is the county line which is the ridgeline just to the north of the BB Pass road.

If you consider that 550 runs North - South right there and the County line runs East - West, it is the NW corner that is closed to winter over snow motorized travel. Not Wilderness but a USFS closure. If the skiers see you over there, expect to talk to a Ranger about it...

I would also HIGHLY recommend you not take your wife up that way on the sno pro. Takes a pretty decent rider on a powerful machine to get into the upper bowls.

Beautiful country up there though...
