recommendations for doubling up

Hey guys, I'm looking to take my girlfriend with me out for a ride this year, and I was either going to put her behind me or sitting infront of me on my IQ 155. So I was wondering how well this would work. The both of us together are probably 270 together, so if heavier riders or people who have doubled up before have any advise for sitting the sled up to handle this? Also, anyone have any idea how much the extra weight will affect handling/power? It is only a 600 after all. thanks!

You might get by trail riding, if you set the springs tighter. I don't see how either of you could enjoy off trail. I would put the light weight on behind. Even a 270 lb single rider would have his weight forward. I would suggest you borrow a friends sled for you to ride, and let her ride yours. It will be a lot more fun for her, and she will want to go again.

DON'T DO IT! Borrow another sled if either of you want any enjoyment. There is no way to go off trail or corner at all. Snowboarders double up to get back up the hill, but they are both standing with one guy and each side rail and one hand each on the bars...and they both need to know how to ride to make it work in the powder.

I was going to suggest the same or rent a two up touring sled.

Off-trail with two people, especially an inexperienced rider is not the makings for a fun or productive day.

Honestly her riding in front of you sitting down while you stand really is not that bad off trail. I've went boondocking with my wife like this and she loved it.

Every person I know in Norway rides with their girlfriend quite often. They boondock, trail ride, hillclimb etc with the ladies standing on the back. Once you get used to it, it's just fine. For the nasty stuff they will hop off until it's tracked enough to get up. Or since they ride a lot of shorter tracked sleds there, the person sits on the front for the steeper stuff. My wife would never ride on her own, but she loves 2 upping.

This is what I was thinking. I just want to show her the excitement and thrill of riding so she understands early on why I frikken love riding and how important it is to me. I'm not planning on doing lots of boondocking with her on, just a little bit here and there.

But my family does have a 2-up sled so for the trail sections perhaps I would trade down to the 2-up. Thanks for all honest opinions wish it would work better though >.<

I've had to do this for years. Buddy has cabin 20 minutes in and keeps sleds there. Ride behind. Inexperience don't matter you push them to the correct side with your knees. Safest way to ride kids also. When you jump your bend your knees under their ARM pits also...

BUT YOUR SLED SAYS NO PASSENGER!!!!! So better listen to government, they've gotten everything right so far!!!!

Kimpex backrest or the new Polaris type and they have something to hang onto besides fighting you on the bars... I've done this for years and it works, your sled might not look or feel so macho but it works.

I've found that putting them up front gives you more control of the weight as you can move them from side to side with your arms as needed. With them on back, unless they have some sledding experience, they just hang on and add dead weight to the sled and make shifting weight rather troublesome. I have done some boondocking and climbing with the girl on front holding onto the mountain bar on my edge and it works ok and is still somewhat fun for a day or two of riding. Just make sure if you jump any cornices with them up front yur tall enough that yur chin doesn't hit the top of their helmet, its not the greatest feeling in the world.

man what a bunch of pussies, definitely throw her on the front and go rally. As long as you're not in 4' of fresh you'll be fine. We routinely ride with chicks in the front (we call it chipmunk or trail-bunny because of how they hold the mountainbar) and then you're free to hop around the back and shred like you normally would. Tandem is good for a couple of guys, but girls don't seem to dig on that as much, especially on long, bumpy trails, but I've side-hilled and climbed and broke trail and done almost everything I normally would tandem that I do solo. You can even "trandem" with a chipmunk and 2 on the sides, but it's not as fun.

Having her on the back for anything but a flat, groomed trail is suicide.

Do wear a full-face though!

Doubling up.

I've double my daughter quite abit with her in front. It works but it's abit more work. I have also double buddies of mine out of the bush and could not go one in front of the other. The only way we were able to get out was with each one of us on the running boards and leaning together. Once you get used to riding together it worked great. Then I always had a buddy to help get me unstuck. But the best would be to get another sled. Both would have a better day.

If you really must 2-up, check out the 2-up seat from the 550 LX. Put one on my sled, but not for passenger use (seat has removable foam in the passenger area, nice spot for gear). The passenger will sit up high however. Heed the advisories about 2-uping a not-designed-for-2-up use snowmobile.
