I use a small straight screwdriver or pocket knife to pry them out, then I use 2 of the old buttons and a C-Clamp to put them back in. Place the new buttons in the spider, put a used button on each one of the new ones and take a small c-clamp and "press" them into place.

http://recreationsupply.ca/catalog.html then go to tools and maintenance then about page 10 and tool sm-12187

This is the best one I have found so far. You still need to be careful, a little practice and you should be able to get them out without damage. A very strong grip helps a lot!
Oh take one side out and pound the pin in to remove the other side damage free.
A heavy flat surface and a dead blow hammer works well for installation.

Thanks for the quick replies

Too bad i didn't grab that button removal tool when i purchased all of the other clutch tools earlier today at Rec Supply

Ya, it's the place to buy if you live in the rectangle or actually the quadrilateral?

I believe polaris tells you to drill a small hole on one side and then take a small punch to drive out the other side. That being said I usually take a small chisel punch and pry them out.

thanks again guys! I picked up that SLP tool and it is worthless, all it did was chip the edges off. I ended up drilling into them and hammering the pin across as stated much easier. In the "team" manual it says to use clutch/cable lube to lubricate the bushings does anyone do this?

No lube.
I assumed you where trying to save the pucks which you can do with the tool. If your replacing then anything goes!

okay no lube. I was not trying to save them but the slp tool was inferior and I would suggest not spending your money on it

The one I recommended? If so, you weren't using it right.

The one I put the link up for is AWESOME. Never damages the buttons. Put it down flush with the spider and on to the buttons, tap it with a hammer to get it to bite a little in to the buttons and then wiggle them out. I have used it to remove literally a hundred clutch buttons and never had a single one get damaged.

Did you notice that your weight had moved over and removed some material from the spider? I personaly would replace the whole clutch since you can't get just a spider, but at the very least I would have the clutch balanced.
