Rebuilding a 2860 to a 2871 issues..

Just a quick question, we are redoing a 2860 into a 2871. We have a new wheel and a new compressor housing to match. Just curious if anyone knows the torque spec on the shaft bolts. Powderlites figures no more than 10 in/lbs. And use a bit of loctite. I couldn't get a hold of anyone at Garrett. Anyone know?

Also Mitch at powderlites mentioned that the shafts with the wheels are balanced at the factory and changing the wheels can throw them out of balance.. Makes sense but I'm sure lots of people have done this or changed wheels. is there anything i should do or watch for? Will the turbo life be reduced?? Anyone done this and had a failure?

Thx in advance..

Might want to give Alamo a call in Calgary. They might not charge too much to throw it together and make sure its balanced. For sure they will have the torque spec.

Do you have their contact info? Do they have a dynamic balance?

fyi

Just an update..... for anyone considering changing their 2860 to a 2871. (using your existing turbine side) read on..

2871 wheels need to be machined on the backsde to gain clearance to the bearing packing bolts. Also the wheel is deeper and the wheel needs to be machined to allow for enough threads for the nut.

The body also has to be machined to allow for the larger wheel. The wheel is inset and you need to machine it out to allow the wheel to sit in properly. You ned 0.025 thou clearance all round.

Thank god I can Machine!!! it took me hours to machine all the parts!! Lasty yes you do need to balance it. So we'll be taking it down o Alamo in Calgary. The guys know their turbos and can balance it.

Thx for the tip to call Alamo!!!
