rear shock

I think i need to replace the shock in my rear skid on my 2008 MTX 40th anniversary. The dealer here wants $225 cdn, anyone know where I can get it form for less? Thanks for any help

What is your rear end doing? If its a bottoming issue, they have weak springs from the factory. you can stiffen it up with some off an apex or your dealer can order some.

What makes you think it needs to be replaced?

There are a lot of places that can fix it for less. Even make it perform to your riding style by re-valving and proper spring for ones weight.

I'm relatively new to SnoWest. But as many people that are on here, I'm sure someone could recommend a Canadian shock service. If not someone from the totally Yamaha forum would help.

I have a 2008 special and had replaced my rear suspension when it was new. I would sell you the rear shock for $100.00

When I lift the back end, the suspension moves a couple inches before it actually lifts, also if I push down on the back it needs a bit of help to come back up again. I bought the sled used with 300 km on it, i now have about 2500km. The previous owner put some teflon shims under the spring to stiffen it up a bit as these are known to bottom out pretty easily.

upon further inspection, it looks to be the shock at the back of the sled not the front of the suspension, it doesnt return to full extension at all, could that be the torsion springs instead of the shock?

Yeah its the springs, the shock only serves to dampen the up and down movement of the skid. Stiffer springs should fix you up
