Rear Bumper for towing

Posting on behalf of a buddy. He's got a 2013 Assault and wants to tow my utility trailer up to a cabin with about 75lbs of food and gas in it. What does he need? I'm guessing a HD bumper and hitch but don't know where to look. Thanks!

I'd have a look at AKSnowriders tunnel sides... It's not just the bumper on the RMK when you tow... it's the whole tunnel... and not just the weight of what you are towing... but when you encounter stuff in the way (ruts/ice chunks etc) that can cause you to tweak the entire tunnel.

Plain and simple...The RMK tunnels were not made for towing... the tow bumpers were not made for the newer RMK's.

Good bumper for tuff use

You can also take a look at our Happy Face long mount bumpers as they are designed to distribute the load farther down the tunnel and use a much stronger crossbar and crossbar mounting design that will not fail with the slightest amount of shock loading like the stock bumper such as using a Sno Bungi to pull your buddies Cat or SkiDoo out
As MH mentioned above if you plan on towing on rough trails or with a heavy trailer I would also highly recommend a set of tunnel gussets
Please see this thread for pictures http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=359611
Note the Happy Face bumpers have a bottle opener machined into them as well

I got away with towing a buddy's down 10 RMK out 35 miles last year, with him on the sled, by hooking on multiple points on the 11 running board tubes. Did not tweak a thing. Supposedly groomed trail, virtually all downhill - along the Grey's into Alpine. Lucky he made it to the trail before it let go, where we were earlier in the day it would have been an adventure. I would not try anything more energetic than that without a reinforced bumper/tunnel on a pro, and definitely not with the 13/14 running boards. I was just a lucky fool, or tool, for trying it. FWIW.

No real need for any of that. I towed a couple dead stock sleds out of some bad places with the stock bumper. Its just how you hook it up. Of course you can't just hook to the carbon tube.
I used a snowbunge with the double hooks one through each side of the bumper support frame. Works great, then loop your rope through the basketed bunje to your load. Its constant non shock loaded pulling damage free

I appreciate the feedback but was really looking for a, "This bumper, with this hitch". I ride a 2013 Arctic Cat 1100 turbo, stock bumper, stock cat hitch ($45). I can tow and have towed many times, 175lbs at 50mph on trails and 175lbs through bottomless powder by Wolf Creek at 25mph and never even dreamed of an issue. Got my tub trailer at Costco for well under $200 with the hitch frame and cover.

How to you Poo guys get a weeks worth of gas and gear to a hut?

Look for AKSnowriders posts... that guy tows in his Snap-on rolller!!! LOL..

Honestly... he's looked at this more than most could be expected to value.

As for the Happy face bumper... the long version is something I can recommend as a good heavy duty option.. but it does not have a rotating hitch mount per-se.

The ones for the IQ touring sleds were pretty nice... but again.. on the PRO Chassis RMK's you'll need to brace for this.

I'm still waiting for mine, my dealer says it's coming from the states....

My AKSNOWRIDER bumper and hitch (On my 07D7 but you get the idea). He can build them many different ways depending on your needs.

I woud imagine if only concerened about towing an occassional downed sled, this would work best? And use common sense, meaning not pulling someone out of a sh*t hole...get them on the groomed trail first

i have a skinz with an eyebolt in the back, i tow an icefishing sled for calving and when we go to cooke city we ride in from the parking lot and all our gear food BEER etc is in there, prob about 250lbs maby. ive jerked out lots of stuck sled with it have to say been damn tough

AKSNOWRIDER'S bumper/tunnel support setup on my 2014

Like Mountianhorse said. We pull some crazy loads long distance cross country with these. Likewise, I've packed 18 gal of fuel on the tunnel extension on my 2011 and never bent it. Quality product for those that tow or pack. Downside is, we always end up towing out any and all dead sleds lol
